Authorities in San José arrested 11 people for soliciting sex with children

The San José Police Department announced that a task force arrested nearly a dozen people last week for soliciting sex with a minor, including one who was an assistant principal at a local school.

“Between February 3 and February 6, 2026, the San José Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (IAC) Task Force arrested 11 individuals for communicating… with the intent to sleep with a child,” the police department said.

“The arrests were the result of the ongoing work of multiple agencies targeting individuals who use online platforms to engage in child sexual exploitation,” the release notes. “All suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted lewd acts with a minor, arranging meetings with a minor for sexual purposes, and other crimes related to child exploitation.”

Ruben Guzman, who worked as an assistant principal at Sunrise Middle School, is one of those arrested.

“Police under various law enforcement agencies have impersonated children on the Internet to identify people who want to sexually abuse children,” said the police department. “During our operation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the SJPD ICAC identified Ruben Guzman as a possible suspect and began a criminal investigation.”

Guzman allegedly tried to arrange sex with a 13-year-old boy. But instead he was met by law enforcement and arrested.

“On the night of February 3, 2026, suspect Guzman began communicating with whom he believed to be a 13-year-old male. The suspect admitted that the child was young and told the child that he wanted to have sex, continuing to entice the child by exchanging money. Suspect Guzman planned to pick up the child from Sanhehn when he arrived in the town of Joseh. The SJPD Covert Response Unit immediately arrested him,” the police department wrote.

The principal of Sunrise Middle School, Teresa Robinson, provided a statement to Fox News Digital noting, “We have been notified by law enforcement that the assistant principal has been arrested in connection with allegations involving a minor that do not involve our school. Our highest priority was the safety of the students. The individual was immediately removed from the school and will have no further contact with students.”

“Since that time, we have spoken to students in age-appropriate ways, contacted families directly, and made counseling support available on campus. We have also provided clear ways for anyone in our community to share concerns. At this time, there is no information to indicate that any Sunrise students are involved. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement. While this is deeply saddening to us, our statement does not identify our families,” our families’ statement said. noted.
