LA Chevron costs $8.21 a gallon

After Jill Gottlieb finished filling up her car at a Chevron station in downtown Los Angeles, the final tally at the gas pump read $107.

“This is crazy,” a social worker for the LA County Health Department told the Post of the high price he paid to have his 2017 Mercedes fully functional. “I never filled my tank until now.”

As gas prices rise across the region, the Chevron station at 901 N. Alameda St. we have become a strong symbol of the cold pain at the pump that plagues Californians.

A regular gallon of unleaded gas at the station goes for $8.21 – the best drivers are forced to fill up when they’re speeding in disgust.

“This is crazy. What is this?” asked Crystal, from Orange County, whose Toyota RAV4 was running on empty when she pulled in.

“This was the closest station I could find, so I had to stop. I only fill up enough to get home,” added the 36-year-old, who pumped 3.7 liters for $30.47 and took pictures of the price to send to his family.

Two employees at the Chevron station declined to answer questions about the price hike, saying they had signed a nondisclosure agreement.

Gas prices can vary greatly depending on the brand, location and franchise owner, who sets prices based on preferences.

On Saturday, the average cost of a gallon of regular gas in the state reached $5.07 — 17 cents more than Friday and 43 cents more than a week earlier, according to the American Automobile Association.

While prices per gallon in California are often among the highest in the nation, the recent attacks on Iran have sent gasoline costs skyrocketing.

Drivers already pay a “California premium” that includes higher-than-average state tax and sales taxes, as well as higher costs for the state’s unique weather systems.

Some lawmakers believe that the combination of the agenda of Gov. Gavin Newsom green combined with instability in the global oil markets could make the prices seen in the city of LA become a reality across the country.

The situation risks returning drivers to the worst fuel economy since the 1970s, one advocate warned.

“It’s not scary at all,” said Sen. Suzette Valladares of the state of Southern California told The Post about a report that found that gasoline prices could reach $8 a liter by the end of 2026.

At Alameda Street Station, the future is now.
