Kai Trump Faces Backlash for ‘Tone Deaf’ YouTube Video

Kai Trump is facing criticism on social media as fans learn that the budding golf star has hacked his latest YouTube video.
Trump, 18, posted a 19-minute video titled “I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon” on Sunday, March 8, showing him shopping at a Los Angeles grocery store known as one of the most expensive in the country.
He reportedly changed the title to “I Tried the World’s Most Expensive Restaurant,” but as of Tuesday, March 10, the video appears under its original title.
Grandson of President Donald Trump he finally left Erewhon with one bag of groceries worth $233. Throughout the video, Kai looks at a $165 store-brand shirt and a $21 Hailey Bieber Smoothie.
“I would say, I’m about to run out of money for things,” Kai said at one point. “I will need to file for bankruptcy.”
Kai is currently in high school but has committed to play golf at the University of Miami next season. College sports outlet On3 estimates that his name, image and likeness rights could be worth more than $1 million a year, based on his social media following.
Viewers in the comments and social media quickly realized that because Kai came with the Secret Service, this was a taxpayer-funded trip to a high-end grocery store.
“I love that my taxes are funding this instead of school lunches,” wrote one YouTube user.
Another added, “Zero self awareness. . . Marie Antoinette has been reborn.”
“The article might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read,” said a third. “Right now lmao.”
A democratic strategist Mike Nelliswho strongly opposes President Trump, cited the video on X as an example of how he feels “the Trump family is working to steal as much money from the American taxpayers as possible.”
“That Kai Trump YouTube video is one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen,” he wrote in a separate post. “His grandfather destroys the economy and creates illegal wars, he brags about taking the Secret Service to an expensive store.
Kai is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump. He previously caused controversy in November 2025 when he received a sponsor’s exemption to participate in his first LPGA Tour event. Critics say he was invited because of his reputation and more than 4 million followers on social media.
He finished the tournament in last place with 18 overs to spare.
