Zach Braff and Sarah Chalke Break Down JD and Elliot’s Divorce in ‘Scrubs’ Revival: “There’s Still Plenty of Room for Comedy and Drama”

Fans may still be reeling from the loss of JD (Zach Braff) and Elliot (Sarah Chalke) breaking up. Scrubs revival, but for the show’s celebrities, it’s all about telling good stories.
**Spoiler alert for the first three episodes of Scrubsnow streaming on Hulu and Disney+**
Sitting down with DECIDER to talk about the new series returning after more than 15 years, Braff and Chalke — whose characters ended the original series married and with a growing family — opened up about the controversial decision to split the two for the revival.
“I feel like there’s still too much room for comedy and drama and everything, instead of them being happily married,” Chalke said, adding that her first reaction to the divorce was that the choice was “really good.”
To that end, Braff said there isn’t a lot of fun to explore between the relationship and the couple that is “just right.”
When fans started watching the first episode of the new season, they were quite surprised as the show introduced JD and Elliot’s divorce in a casual manner, with JD saying in a quick voice that their marriage “didn’t work out.” In the latest episode, “My Rom-Com,” the couple must begin to face the idea of working together again after JD agrees to take over the position of Chief of Medicine from Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley).
Now, the duo—who have experienced their fair share of ups and downs during the series’ premiere—must learn to work together, raise their children, and remain friends in what can only be described as a nightmare scenario for any divorced couple.
They are also trying to find themselves single again, which is very easy, as any divorcee can tell you. All in all, that new and interesting relationship sets up an exciting and dynamic push and pull that will be watched throughout the season.
Braff also wants to share a message with those who watched the original series and since then found themselves confused about the separation, that because they thought that JD and Elliot will stay together because of the “flash forward” sequence in Season 8, nothing is guaranteed. Just like ScrubsThe goal has always been to share something real and honest and make fans laugh in the moment, and that’s what they’re doing with these two.
“I think it’s important to remind the fans that in the finale of Season 8, what you see on the screen and on the sheet, are all the things that JD hoped would happen. It was his wish. But you know, in real life, when you end up turning 50, a lot of things don’t go the way you plan. Some do, some don’t,” said another relationship.

He continued: “It is important to talk about two people who love each other but their marriage did not work out.
Those are the questions fans will have to watch the show answer over the course of nine episodes of Season 1. And on the off chance that these two might find their way back together, Chalke and the show’s creator both have the same message: never say never.
