Jack Hughes shares famous gold medal smile on ‘Tonight Show’

American hockey legend and Devils star Jack Hughes may have the most visible crooked teeth in the country, but don’t expect that to become his signature look.
Hughes, her brother and gold medalist Quinn, and gold medalist hockey player Hillary Knight appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday to continue their winning streak, which includes a stop on “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend.
Although all three have traded jerseys for their respective NHL and PWHL teams, Hughes remains one of hockey’s most recognizable players with his damaged front teeth creating a playful smile after taking a stick to the face during their win over Canada in the gold medal game at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
Fallon was visibly excited, suggesting during the segment that “this might be your thing,” which drew laughs from guests and the audience.
“I can promise you this will not be my thing,” Hughes said with a toothy smile.
“Actually, it’s funny, because ever since we got back to the US we’ve been feeling love like crazy and a lot of support,” he continued. But when people come looking for a picture, they’ll be like, ‘smiling.’ … It’s funny, yeah.”
Hughes recalled the moment after he took the high baton from Canada’s Sam Bennett during Canada’s overtime win.
Hughes said Quinn came to her during the TV shutdown shortly after it happened.
“He’s like, ‘It’s not that bad, it’s just recorded,'” Hughes recalled. “That’s what he said. … And that’s four minutes before the end of the game when we were determined, like trying to win this thing, and then he came up and said that.”
Hughes, who recently attended the State of the Union address with his teammates, went on to score the United States’ golden goal 1:41 into overtime on Feb. 22.
The Devils star was pictured with an American flag draped over his shoulders and a bloody mouth shortly after scoring his stunning goal.
Fallon also teased Knight, who scored the tying goal in the women’s gold medal game between the United States and Canada to force overtime, by proposing to her fiancé, Olympic speed skater Brittany Bowe, while standing on the grate.
“I wouldn’t recommend it,” Knight joked after Fallon showed a photo of the proposal that took place the day before the women’s gold medal game.
Bowe was in the crowd during his appearance, and the couple went from “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to the Barclays Center to watch the semi-finals of The Untouchables.
