Is The Artful Dodger Returning For Season 3 After The Miracle Jack, Belle Ends?

It took quite a year The Artful Dodger getting its first renewal – so what are the chances that Hulu will pick up the show again for season 3?
In the season 2 finale, which airs on Tuesday, February 10, Belle (Maia Mitchell) received a shocking revelation about the governor (Damien Garvey) not his biological father. His mother, Jane (Susie Porter), shared the truth when he thought he was on his deathbed but Belle’s love Jack (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) finally saved his life.
As a result, Jane finally gave Belle permission to be with Jack. Belle ran to find him but it seemed that Jack got into the boat and left. The season finale confirmed that Jack couldn’t leave Belle — and the fan-favorite couple shared a kiss.
Elsewhere at the end, Fagin (David Thewlis) had a plan to die so that his problems would end. Jack helped master the plot but Fagin survived and woke up…buried underground.
“It’s a lot [more story] telling you,” said Mitchell, 32, to himself Us Weekly about the future of the show. “It’s a big show with a lot of characters and a lot of episodes happening at the same time.”
The actress noted that there is “a lot of potential” for “character development” in the future, adding, “With Belle and Jack, I see what home life can look like. I don’t know how they pull that off. I don’t see them ever settling down but I see what that looks like to see them strengthen their relationship.”
Mitchell didn’t stop there when it came to potential issues.

Belle learned this revelation about Lady Jane and we see the family in a strong kind of bond together,” he teased. “But I’d like to see what that does for the family — and for Lady Jane. I’d like to see what Lady Jane does in season 3 as well.”
He continued: “Fagin is in a critical situation. And Belle’s sister, Fanny, her story this season is a very pleasant surprise. I wasn’t really in any of those scenes so watching the show back I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s what they did every day when I was at home.’ To see where that goes with Fanny, she is empowered and very happy. I would like to do that. I would love to do a third season and I know everyone feels that way.”
Acting as a sequence of Charles Dickens‘ a novel Oliver Twist, The Artful Dodger is set in the 1850s and follows Jack Dawkins, a former Royal Navy surgeon who tries to establish himself as a respected young doctor. In addition to his antics outside of work, Jack quickly begins dating the governor’s daughter Belle.
“It was a long wait to hear [about a season 2]so we’re very happy to be back,” commented Mitchell Us. “As far as jumping into the character, the hiatus was great. It’s always stressful going back. But it’s so easy with our sets and our clothes, you just melt into the world. But the hiatus was great because I would need that regional hiatus to get a different tone for him, to do something different. Especially with the dialect I’d slow down and tone his voice down. I hope we get a season 3, and hopefully the hiatus won’t be that long.”
Mitchell relished the opportunity to film the project in his native Australia.
“At the end of 2021, I had written a list of things that I was presenting. It was a work that was shot in Australia, a period drama and it was a woman playing the role of a woman and looking for her strength. That means Artful Dodger to me. So it’s a dream job,” he said. “And being able to work from home is great. It’s a small plane to visit family and our team is so amazing. Now I’ve shot a few projects in Australia in the last few years, since I’ve moved home – and overseas – and I can definitely say that it’s the best and highest work I’ve been able to do.”
He concluded: “It’s because of the crew and everyone behind the camera and the cast. We’ve got a lot of talent here and I’m so glad the world knows about it because we did. We’ve always done such great shows but they have this Aussie sound with a dramatic drama. Now we’re expanding that and we’ve got this really fun part-budget drama. It’s kind of a new era in Aussie film and TV. So I couldn’t be braver and I’d just work in Australia with Aussie crews as my job. all if I can.
