Howie Mandel apologized to Kelly Ripa after an awkward moment during her appearance on ‘Live With Kelly and Mark’ on Monday.

The comedian took to Instagram on Saturday to apologize to the TV host, saying that his reaction was a joke that didn’t go well.

“OK, I’ve been debating for 48 hours whether or not I should do this article, and I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing,” Mandel began in his apology video, in which he wrote: “A message to @kellyripa.”

“Philosophically, I don’t believe that a person needs… a person who is a comedian needs to apologize for a joke, it’s a joke,” he said.

“It’s meant as a joke, and it’s not meant to offend, it’s not meant to… you can’t like it and in all my 50 years in the business, I’ve never publicly apologized… This is difficult for me, but this is for Kelly Ripa, who has been incredibly supportive of the beach movie,” said Maneddel.

“Not only have I been a guest on his show, but I have collaborated with him, and I have known him for years. Micheal Gelman, his best friend, is the producer of this show. And when I go out there, I just try to have fun, to be funny,” he explained.

“And sometimes, as a comedian, things don’t go the way you want them to. And I don’t know how to say this, but I just don’t want to apologize to Kelly,” Mandel said. “But this is the hardest part… you’re right. You’re absolutely right.”

She appeared to lighten things up on the topic, ending the video by saying: “And I’m sorry I didn’t see it that way, but after a lot of thinking and self-reflection, I’m going to … I look good for my age, I look good. I really, really look good, and I just have to accept the fact that I look this good.”

The tense situation began when “Live With Kelly and Mark” producer – and Ripa’s husband – Mark Consuelos told Mandel: “You just turned 70. You’re 70 years old.”

“It doesn’t make sense,” added Ripa.

“What do you mean it doesn’t make sense?” Mandel asked, Consuelos said, “You look beautiful!”

Mandel appeared to take Ripa’s compliment as an age dig, saying: “Do I look big? That doesn’t mean anything to me. No, no, no, no. I don’t like that, because that’s a warning.”

“What do you mean it doesn’t make sense?” he asked, to which Consuelos added: “You look good!”

“Do I look good? That doesn’t mean anything to me. No, no, no, no. I don’t like that, because that’s a caveat,” Mandela said in a heated moment.

“We’re not saying you look good at 70. You look good,” Ripa replied.

Yes, he is, except for ’70,'” Mandela said.

“I mean it. I mean it,” Consuelos said jokingly, trying to pass the time.

“It’s like saying you’re smart to a stupid person,” he says, meaning the compliment is an insult.

“Yes,” replied Consuelos, before Mandel appeared to delay: “I’ll wait a minute. I’m good!” Mandela laughed, drawing and laughing.
