How Age of Attraction Could Change Season 2 After Backlash

After finding success on Netflix, The Age of Attraction will return for season 2 – with possible changes.

During a special interview with Us Weeklythe creators Rebecca Quinn again Jennifer O’Connell he reflected on how the show’s concept would evolve, saying, “The first season shows you what people really care about — and it’s not always what you expect. There are moments you think will come, and then it’s completely different ones that take over the conversation.”

Quinn and O’Connell expressed interest in portraying some of the couples.

“We had a lot of great storylines that we didn’t have time to fully explore, including the same-age couples and, if there’s a second season, we can definitely lean on that relationship more,” they noted. “As well as expanding the overall storytelling, showing more love triangles and more depth in every interaction.”

According to the co-founders, “there were 14 couples ready to enter the ‘real world,'” adding, “The way we expected. The bad news is that we didn’t have time to fully show everyone’s journey.”

They continued: “If anything, it’s a testament to the acting and our casting director Jacqui Pittman did such an incredible job that we were forced to make some really tough decisions in the editing. Looking back, we wish we could have found a way to sneak in a few more of those stories.”

The new dating show, which premiered in March, is hosted by real-life couples Nick Viall again Natalie Joywho are 18 years apart. According to the official synopsis, “Age is thrown out the window as singles search for their soul mates, but will age stand between them?”

Divided into three parts, the first batch of episodes showed the initial connection that was formed before each couple made their promises to each other. After visiting the Promise Room, each couple was finally able to discuss their age gap – and decided they wanted to continue exploring their chemistry. They then transitioned to life in the real world before making a decision about their future together.

“Honestly, it’s hard to predict what will hit and what won’t. The only thing we can control is making the shows we’d like to watch,” Quinn and O’Connell shared about the process. “And for us, that’s something small, hot, a little less melting — but still heartfelt. So seeing people leaning in their way — texting about it, discussing it, choosing a side — that’s a win for us.”

Quinn and O’Connell broke ground with “40 participants and 14 couples going to the Promise Room,” which “far exceeded” their expectations.

“As you can imagine, it is difficult to narrow down the couples we are following in the next stage, but we chose six and in the end we were happy how many chose to stay together in the finals,” they explained. “It’s always amazing to see something real come out of it. But even relationships that don’t last mean something. Not every connection lasts forever, but that doesn’t make it less real when it happens.”

Although only the two couples are still together now, Quinn and O’Connell refer to it as a success story regardless, “It’s so exciting to see two couples in a strong, strong relationship and really happy. We shot this show almost a year ago so they have lasting power! It’s interesting that one of those couples is an older woman with a younger man and an older man with a younger woman.”

They also explore strong reactions to the concept of The Age of Attraction.

“We like to start a real conversation about whether you believe age gap couples work or not, people love to talk about it!” Said Quinn and O’Connell Us. “Our goal was not to tell the audience how they should feel, but to present the relationship honestly and let viewers draw their own conclusions. And we were very keen to show a range of dynamics, including those that aren’t seen very often, and we think that’s part of why the conversation was so effective.”

The Age of Attraction is streaming on Netflix and the reunion is now available Nick Viall“The Viall Files” podcast.
