Grey’s Anatomy Teases How Owen Is Going Amidst Kevin McKidd’s Exit

Grey’s Anatomy appeared to show how Dr Owen Hunt will be removed from the show after the news broke Kevin McKidd again Kim Raverhe goes out.

In the Thursday, March 26, episode of the medical drama, Owen (McKidd) and Teddy (Raver) visit Cascade Hill to help a small hospital with a few supplies. The visit revealed to Teddy that Owen had gotten the job at Cascade that he had been thinking about.

At the end of their trip, Owen assured Teddy that he was not leaving Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital. Viewers, however, know that McKidd, 53, will be finishing his arc as Owen comes to the end of season 22.

“Grey’s Anatomy has been a huge chapter in my life, creatively and personally, and I’m so grateful for everything the show has given me over the years,” McKidd said in a statement on Wednesday, March 25. “Playing Dr. Owen Hunt and directing the show have both been very rewarding, and I’ve had the privilege of working with more than one person during that time that I’m very grateful to. Rhimes for creating Owen, and for the encouragement he’s given me as I move into directing.”

He continued: “As that chapter closes, I look forward to what lies ahead—creating new work, telling new stories and taking everything I’ve learned into the next phase of my career.”

Raver, 57, also broke his silence on the news while confirming his departure.

“Playing Dr. Teddy Altman will always hold a dear and special place in my heart. Sixteen years ago, I had the incredible privilege of stepping into this role thanks to the vision of Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers,” he wrote in his statement. “Since that day, it has been a true gift to express the incredible words of Shonda and our brilliant writing team. … To the fans – your unwavering dedication and support is the reason this show stays strong. Thank you for making this my magical place and my home.”

Creator Shonda Rhimes, meanwhile, revealed how the season will end for Teddy (Raver) and Owen (McKidd).

“Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of watching Owen and Teddy’s love story evolve and deepen — two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other. It’s both bittersweet and exciting to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves,” he chuckled in a statement. “Kevin and Kim bring incredible talent, uniqueness and heart to their roles as Owen and Teddy. Their contributions left an indelible mark on Grey’s Anatomy, both in front of and behind the camera. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them both and to see them shine.”

He concluded: “While we will all miss seeing them in the halls of Gray Sloan Memorial each day, I am excited to witness where Kim and Kevin’s journey will take them in the future.”

Deadline reported that McKidd and Raver were notified more than a month ago that they would be leaving Gray. Their final episode will be the finale of season 22, which has just finished production and will air on May 7.

Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC on Thursdays at 10 pm ET before airing the next day on Hulu.
