Ghost Golf Brush: Is it the new king of golf club brushes?

Welcome to Tried It, GOLF.com’s series about golf gear – apparel, gear, equipment, etc. – which we just took out to throw away. We are here to offer our reliable, non-golf or near-golf items. So, scroll down to read about our favorite new (or new to us) golf products.
The new Ghost Golf Magnetic Golf Club has arrived, and they were kind enough to send me one in each of the new colors (navy, black and gray).
There’s a lot of competition in this space, and, to be honest, I’m usually not that excited about something like a club brush, but I have to say they put some thought into their new offering.

First impressions
When I first took the brushes out of the box, I immediately questioned the decision to add two brush heads. Two brush heads mean two things to follow, and they create a point of error with the brush fibers themselves. I was very surprised to find that there is a very clear difference between the two brush heads, and the way they build the fine, large bristles is an easy way to keep them from stripping or creating a point of failure in the brush’s longevity.
The hard bristle brush worked very well on dirty clubs, and the soft bristle brush didn’t bother me as I cleaned my beloved Payntr Eighty Seven SC golf shoes. About having two things to follow … I can’t say that is not an issue, but I can argue that the club brush can stay in the garage at home to clean the shoes every few rounds so that the chances of losing the brush head are less.

My favorite features
There are two main features of the brush: the magnet and the retractable cable. These are your two security options. Well, how do you make sure you don’t lose the brush. There is one very popular club brush on the market and I can’t even count how many of them I’ve lost because the magnetic style doesn’t hold up over time or on an exploding cart.
I haven’t tested the Ghost brush on the cart at full speed, but the magnet is strong enough to take a golf club with it, and the brush shape is about the same size as the golf cart bar you’ll attach it to, as shown on the back of the package. I’ll talk more about that form thing in a minute.

The best retractable system in the game?
A secondary attachment option is a retractable clip/lanyard. The clip itself is good quality metal that doesn’t bend easily inside; the problem with other golf bag brushes and accessories on the market includes the carabiner that holds my rangefinder case in my bag.
The inside of the clip is a real winner. Instead of using a flimsy cable or stretchy material they use a coiled cable similar to what you would find in a bicycle lock, or other cable lock. It’s bright. What a simple move for them to make to make sure the retractable feature isn’t broken after your third round with a new brush. Also, I can’t tell you how many brushes over the years I’ve thrown away or lost because that little retractable cable broke.

Thought in every part
It’s good here. This brush is not going anywhere. Even the small clip that goes into the actual brush is built better than others I’ve seen. It is impossible to engage the button by mistake again. It got behind the brush and I couldn’t do anything with my hands to get it free. I had to hold the tee and apply a little pressure just to get the brush out of the lanyard. Terrible things.

Does it really clean your clubs?
Actually using the brush itself is a lot of fun. The form factor of the brush is like holding a large pencil, or you can hold the entire brush if you need to use more force. The water system is simple and I don’t know how to measure the amount of water it produces, but about two pumps is all you need. They say there are about 400 pumps inside the lake so it will be a while between refills.
Pro tip: put a drop of soap inside the brush, it will work wonders on your clubs and shoes. The replaceable brush heads come off easily, but they won’t retract unless you want them to, and the same goes for the cap on the reservoir. Just make sure you put that cap on after you fill it with water. You have done that.
