Former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore’s top assistant Paige Shiver is silent, says she’s faced ‘years of deception’.
The alleged wife of disgraced University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has broken her silence, saying she faced “years of cheating, abuse, and exploitation” by the married coach — and that the school failed to protect her.
Paige Shiver released a statement through her Chicago-based attorneys, Action Injury Law Group, on Monday after charges of home invasion, stalking and burglary were dropped against Moore on Friday, the Detroit News reported.
The former executive assistant to the married father of three, 32, said the dynamic dynamic between Moore – a “powerful coach” – and a “subordinate” created an environment where he “felt stressed, intimidated and unable to get away with behavior that should not occur in any workplace – let alone a public university.”
His statement did not provide any further details on the conduct.
His attorneys also pointed to a December statement by Athletic Director Warde Manuel calling the relationship “a clear violation of University policy” and noted that the school “has zero tolerance for such behavior,” suggesting Shiver may not be the only one who experienced “inappropriate, coercive or exploitative behavior” by Moore.
The statement called on the University of Michigan to investigate.
“Institutions entrusted with the education and safety of students and staff have an important duty to ensure that power is never used to exploit or silence others,” said the statement.
“A thorough and transparent investigation into this behavior – and any related institutional failures – must occur. Our client came forward at great personal cost because he believes that silence allows the abuse of power to continue.”
Shiver’s attorney, Andrew M. Stroth, told the newspaper that Moore “took advantage of a young, female employee.”
“The University of Michigan is one of the best institutions in the world, but there is a culture in athletics that has hurt Ms. Shiver and others,” Stroth said, adding that Moore’s firing of the relationship shows it should not have happened.
“The leadership knew and failed to protect him. This is not something that happened suddenly, it happened for a long time.”
He declined to elaborate on the details of their relationship.
Shiver served as Moore’s top assistant before the gridiron boss was fired and later arrested in December for allegedly breaking into his apartment, where he took butter knives and kitchen shears and threatened to harm himself.
Before Moore was fired, Shiver allegedly shared evidence of their two-year relationship, prompting the Ann Arbor-based university to launch an investigation into the alleged inappropriate relationship.
The 40-year-old, who led the popular Wolverines football program for two seasons between 2024 and 2025, was fired on December 10 after “substantial evidence” was found to support the affair with the employee.
After he was kicked out, he allegedly drove to Shiver’s house and intervened and said he was going to hurt himself.
Shiver’s statement comes after Moore pleaded no contest Friday to a misdemeanor charge of misusing a social media device, and the first three charges — including domestic assault — were dismissed.
Moore could face up to six months in prison on the misdemeanor charge, and 30 days on the charge — much longer than the five years he faced on the aggravated domestic assault charge.
He is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing on April 14.
Both Shiver and Stroth expressed disappointment with the deal and called on the university to answer for its “grievous mistakes,” TMZ reported.
Stroth cautioned that a lawsuit against Moore and the University of Michigan is still on the table.
“The University of Michigan is recognized as one of the best academic institutions in the world,” Stroth told TMZ.
“At this time, we are exploring all avenues to obtain justice for Ms. Shiver and to advance systemic reforms in the University’s athletic department.”
Shiver’s contract with the school ended earlier this month, and he no longer works at the university.
