Don Lemon talks about becoming president, says he’ll be ‘a lot better than Donald Trump’
Former CNN anchor and freelance reporter Don Lemon talked about whether he would ever consider running for president.
“Do I ever think about it? Yes,” Lemon said on Sunday’s “Pod Save America.”
“Could it happen? Yes, it could if the opportunity presented itself, the right opportunity presented itself. Look, if I wanted to, I know people would think I’m crazy. This would be a big headline, and people would laugh about it. I think I could be President of the United States. I could certainly run this country better than Donald Trump.”
Lemon said that he is not currently interested in running for office, saying that it could “ruin” his life and also pointed out that white men “get away” more than women or minorities.
He also said that he will have to change his affiliation with his party from an independent to a Democrat.
However, he recoiled at the thought that it was impossible for him to think of running.
“Am I at that point now? No. And I know people are going to say Don Lemon is crazy. But yeah, that…look, why can’t I think about running for office? Why can’t I think about being President of the United States when I look at what we have?” Lemon said.
He continued, “Does anyone think that Barack Obama, as he said, this guy with a funny name comes from a mixed background, did anyone ever think that he would be president, that he has that desire? I have no desire to be president, but I think I can run this country much better than Donald Trump.”
Commenting on Fox News Digital, Lemon stood by his comments and added that he would wait for a sign from his creator and “the people” to send him a sign of candidacy.
“When I was a child, my parents taught me that I can be and do whatever I want, and I believed them. As a person of faith, I will have to first consult with my creator about that. If he (my creator) gives me a sign, and so do the people, then it’s game on. Someone has to fix everything that Donald Trump f-ed up,” said Lemon.
During the show, Lemon also revealed that he could run a news organization “better than most people,” likely because of the potential new owner of his network.
“I’ve been in this game a long time, and I don’t like, you know, an anchor up front. I can come in and fix a lot of their problems and lickety-splits quickly,” Lemon said.
Lemon gained national attention in January after live-streaming violent riots in St. Paul’s Cities Church under allegations that its pastor cooperated with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
He was later charged with conspiracy to violate religious freedom and violating the FACE Act in connection with the demonstration.
Lemon appeared in court last month and pleaded not guilty.
