Curtis Sliwa teams up with Zohran Mamdani in a cat-themed comedy skit — but the GOP doesn’t find it funny

It was not the cat’s meow to some Republicans.

Some GOP insiders are furious with 2025 mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa for teaming up with Mayor Zohran Mamdani in a cat-themed comedy – saying the Guardian Angels founder has “betrayed” them.

Sliwa, the red beret-wearing founder of the Guardian Angels and self-proclaimed guardian of Gotham’s animals, joined the democratic socialist mayor in a video recorded earlier this year for the Inner Circle show – a political musical charity game.

Some insiders now say they should receive their political donations after the show, which shows Sliwa giving Mamdani an allergy so she can end up living with a cat at Gracie Mansion.

The skit is spoiled by the fact that Mamdani, who is allergic to cats, actually gets a series of allergy shots so that he and his cat-loving wife, Rama Duwajii, can bring a pet to their new mayoral digs.

But some Republicans aren’t laughing.

“If you don’t have a bed to sleep in, you have to find someone to take one,” protested former Governor David Paterson. “You can tell when people are honest at a party, and I thought it was a crime.”

Sliwa emphasized that his goal is to help animals.

“I thought it was great because it promoted animal rescue,” he told The Post after the game, describing a Mamdani employee who called two weeks ago asking if Sliwa would appear in a skit about the mayor’s “vaccination of cats” — something Sliwa said the two political rivals really agree on.

Still, critics have dismissed Sliwa’s light-hearted theatrics as cold-hearted betrayal.

“He betrayed his family. He betrayed the Republican Party. He betrayed everybody,” one GOP operative snarled, insisting on anonymity to spoil the cat lover’s cameo.

Paterson and others are still upset that Sliwa refused to drop out of last fall’s odd race to make way for former Gov. Andrew Cuomo — an anti-Mamdani coalition that saw him as the best chance to prevent him from winning.

“[Curtis] he wasn’t going to win,” Patterson fumed on Sunday. “He scored 7, seven – even the Jets score seven when he plays.”

The Guardian Angels founder refused to budge and even walked off the 77 WABC radio station under pressure from host and owner John Catsimatidis to make way for Cuomo.

Sliwa’s opponent, Fernando Mateo – who organizes bodega owners and ran against Sliwa in the 2021 Republican mayoral primary – said the candidate would do anything to get media attention.

“People should not panic, this is not new and there is more to come,” Mateo told The Post Sunday. “He is a liar who always wants attention, especially from the media.”

Sliwa said that his GOPers colleagues were disrespecting him.

“If people are upset about that, why aren’t you angry at President Donald Trump who has welcomed him to the White House twice?” He caught Sliwa.

Still, Sliwa — who already plans to seek the GOP mayoral nomination in 2029 — insisted he is not close to the beloved mayor of the Democratic Socialists of America.

“That’s the only contact I’ve had with Zohran since the election,” said Sliwa.
