Cornyn’s call to kill the filibuster: Letters

Issue: Sen. John Cornyn is seeking Republican support to end the filibuster to pass voter ID legislation.

I have never been a big fan of Sen. John Cornyn, but his stock rose sharply after reading his article about ending the filibuster (“Damn the Filibuster,” PostOpinion, March 12).

The only way the SAVE Act can pass is with a simple majority, as Democrats, except for Sen. John Fetterman, he will never support anything the Republicans propose.

The last few Republicans holding a seat in the Senate need to act in the best interests of the people.

As representatives of the people, senators have a responsibility to support the action that the voters have the most support for.

Voter ID laws seem reasonable.

I have to use an ID to get into NYU Hospital, to return items to certain stores in New York City and to access certain buildings.

Why are Democrats afraid to show ID?

It’s time for Chuck Schumer to put on a sock and be a credible politician instead of fanning the flames.

I was shocked to read my Senator, John Cornyn, advocated for SAVE America in The Post.

He said he would throw aside his morals to pass the bill.

Cornyn says it’s necessary to maintain voting integrity.

However, he said nothing about the Republican Party, in collaboration with the state, denying Dallas voters access to their proper polling places.

The SAVE Act does not make voting more secure, it extends what was done in Dallas, disenfranchising as many voters as possible.

Cornyn helps celebrate.

Democrats will remove the filibuster the first chance they get.

If Republicans don’t take the initiative, they will be seen as weak and strong, rightfully so.

In the 1990s, Schumer called voter ID “an anti-fraud amendment.”

But now, in 2026, he says it’s “Jim Crow 2.0.”

So where is it?

Sadly, Schumer seems to have no shame in speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

Democrats who oppose the SAVE Act are exposed.

Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jefferies said he will not vote to fund Homeland Security until his reforms to ICE are met.

Schumer says having ICE agents at the polls will turn tens of millions away from voting because they are not registered.

And they say Republicans are a threat to democracy.

Only legal US citizens should be allowed to vote, and even then, only once.

The problem: An illegal immigrant with a criminal record allegedly pushed two subway passengers onto the tracks.

Jhon Pena is a true hero, and everyone else who helped rescue him and Air Force veteran Richard Williams are exceptional people for stepping up in an emergency (“Pushed the envelope,” March 12).

Illegal immigrants like Byron Hernandez, who allegedly pushed both men off the tracks, are the ones the Democratic Party is trying to protect by shutting down the Department of Homeland Security and not paying its workers.

Another day, another alleged immigration crime.

Now we have two people stuck in the subway, they are lucky to be alive.

Do the Democrats ever admit to any of these crimes, or do every incident come with an excuse?

Sen. Schumer gets the microphone for everything except criticizing anti-cultural crimes and immigration crimes.
