Spring is just around the corner and as the weather warms up, it’s a good time to start planning a camping trip. Sonoma County has a number of amazing campsites, including one that won the 2026 National Campspot Awards.
Casini Ranch Family Campground in Duncans Mills has been named one of the most unique campgrounds in the country, according to camping website Campspot.
Campspot’s award winners “stand out because of their unique aesthetic, offering experiences that can’t be found anywhere else,” according to the site.
Only a short drive from the Sonoma Coast, Casini Ranch Family Campground, open since 1965, is nestled among the beautiful hills. This family-owned RV park and campground sits on a 110-acre farm near the Russian River waterway.
Casini Ranch has a mile of riverfront that allows campers to “paddle the Russian River, feed the horses, spend the day fishing, or fly high on a bouncy pillow,” according to Campspot.
Willow Creek Resort, part of Sonoma Coast State Park, is located near the Casini campground, making it easy for campers to enjoy miles of hiking trails. Touring bicycles are available for rent at the campground, in addition to golf carts and watercraft from the Boat Shack (open May through October).
The campground offers guests the opportunity to enjoy a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, basketball, volleyball, fishing, boating, kayaking, swimming and horseshoe pits. During the busy season and holidays, Casini Ranch hosts family-friendly events such as bonfires, hayrides, movie nights, dance parties, ice cream parties, themed weekends and Halloween activities.
