Wahlberg didn’t stop there with suggestions. “But I think my nephews are also interested in playing parts.” They are actors and we have Oscar, Jeffrey and Brandon. They’re all doing really well on their own,” he continued. “Is there a world where I end up twisting Mark’s arm to come do an episode? Maybe. It depends on the script but anything is possible.”

Before Boston Blue, Blue Bloods followed the life of the Reagan family, most of whom worked for the NYPD under the leadership of NYC Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). Frank’s father, Henry Reagan (Le Cariou), was also the center of the show, along with Frank’s children: daughter Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and sons Danny (Wahlberg) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).

The show aired from 2010 to 2024 before CBS announced the end. Wahlberg’s character is at the center of the spinoff, which begins as a former NYPD officer takes a position with the Boston PD and is paired with detective Lena (Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

“That’s the joy right now of working with this group of writers. And the runners especially … I told them on Monday that I had a call with them. [the Boston Celtics’] Jaylen Brown also said, ‘Get me on the show,'” explained Wahlberg. That’s how we deal with this.”

Wahlberg has always been happy to explore new opportunities.

“We will not do anything unintentionally at any time in the past,” he told us. “But they’re a game of trying things out and it’s really about making sure we’re doing it right and making sure we’re giving it the most value to the audience.”

He concluded by saying: “It is also aware that we can take time and there is no need to force all these things on the audience.

Boston Blue airs on CBS Fridays at 10 pm ET.
