Bay Area High School girls athlete of the week, East Bay, South Bay, Peninsula

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury news & The East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.

Throughout the academic year, we will provide a list of outstanding students from the previous week and allow you, the student, to vote for the winner.

This week, we are considering performance from 16-21 Feb.

Voting closes at 5pm on Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you like until then without using bots or other artificial voting methods.

Votes by email and after 5pm on Wednesdays are not counted.

Winners are announced every Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and the sports sections of the East Bay Times.

Candidates for Future Athlete of the Week can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.

We accept appointments until 11 am every Monday.

We also review the statistics submitted to them MaxPreps by coaches/team statistics.

For the nominees:

Krista Arreola, Menlo School soccer: The senior scored the winning goal assisted by Julia Axelrod in a 1-0 victory over Santa Cruz to send the Knights to the CCS Division IV semifinals. He also dominated the field for the Knights, helping them preserve a tie and an automatic playoff bid earlier in the week.

Mahlaysia Atkins, Moreau Catholic basketball: Atkins scored 33 points and went 13 of 18 from the field as Moreau Catholic beat Fortuna in the first round of the NCS Division II playoffs, adding five rebounds, four assists and eight steals. He added 14 points, four rebounds and two rebounds as MC beat Marin Catholic 74-48 in the quarterfinals.

Julia Branch, Cardonet soccer: The sophomore scored the game-winning goal in Cardonelet’s 1-0 NCS Open Division semifinal victory over Cardinal Newman, advancing the Cougars to the Open Championship against Bishop O’Dowd on Saturday.

Rosalyn Diaz, Liberty wrestling: Diaz won the 190-pound title at the NCS tournament, going 7-0 in the finals to defend the championship.

Tamara Grace, Gilroy advises: The senior won the 130-pound bracket at the CCS Masters wrestling tournament, winning every match by fall, technical fall or forfeit.

London Greene, Carlmont basketball: Green posted a double-double in a regular season win over Mills, tallying 18 points and 15 rebounds as Carlmont won 52-32.

SJ Martin, Granada wrestling: Martin swept the 120-pound bracket at the NCS tournament, pinning all four of his opponents in the first period to secure the individual tournament and help Granada take home the team title.

Khloe Meisenbach, South San Francisco wrestling: Meisenbach won the 140-pound bracket at the CCS tournament, winning his three matches by fall and the championship match with a 12-0 major decision.

Kaylin Teo, Mission San Jose basketball: Teo had 16 points, including eight of MSJ’s eight points in overtime, to lead No. 12 Warriors 47-46 victory over No. 5 Urban in the opening round of the NCS Division III tournament.

Shayna Ward, Oakland Tech wrestling: Ward, a senior, won the 135-pound title at the NCS tournament, earning his championship match with a first-time pin. It was his third consecutive NCS crown.
