Arrested in North Carolina Camper Triple Murder

A man accused of killing three people at a camp in North Carolina is suspected to have turned himself in to authorities during the murder.
Ethan Lee Spaulding of Maxton was arrested on Sunday night, March 22, on three counts of murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a weapon from a fenced area to incite fear, the County Sheriff’s Office said Monday, March 23, in a statement.
Spaulding is charged with the death of Triston Goins, Howard Dean Jones again Ashley N. Jacobsaccording to the authorities.
Deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office found Goins, 28, Jones, 51, and Jacobs, 35, dead inside a camper in Pembroke on the morning of March 22, the sheriff’s office said.
“This arrest marks an important step toward justice in a senseless and truly horrific triple homicide in the Prospect Community outside of Pembroke,” the Robeson County Sheriff said. Burnis Wilkins said the statement.
“I commend our investigators for their hard work, and unwavering commitment to the arrest of the suspect, and I also thank the public for their patience and cooperation,” added Wilkins. “Unfortunately, this case is another example of a pattern we continue to see; drugs play a major role in violent crime in our region.”
Spaulding was later arrested on March 22 following a “disagreement” at an apartment in Red Springs, according to the sheriff’s office.
He eventually left the building and “surrendered,” authorities said.
The possible cause of this murder was not clarified by the law enforcement officers.
According to court documents viewed by Us WeeklySpaulding was armed with a 40-caliber handgun and a 12-gauge shotgun inside the camp where he listened to Goins, Jones and Jacobs.
The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the triple homicide with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
Spaulding is being held without bond, court records show. He is expected to appear in court on April 2.
