Apple’s Advanced Siri AI Promises to Do More. I’m Not Sure I Want That

With Apple’s has long been promised Siri switchSiri AI will work across multiple apps and devices. I’m not happy about it.
At the WWDC 2026 developer conference on Monday, Apple made its new Siri the focus. You’ll be able to call Siri to find out about concert tickets and set a reminder to buy them. You can ask Siri about the landmark on your screen that your friend sent you, and see if your friend lives nearby without scrolling through weeks of messages. Siri AI can step in too change your password to the relevant accounts on your behalf — which sounds to me like giving too little control.

Siri already has access to other apps using your voice, but she’s never been able to handle multi-step tasks without your help. Soon, Siri will be able to dig into your messages, photos, browser and other applications to complete various tasks. It will understand what’s on your screen and take action based on that information. As Apple demonstrated during its keynote, you can use Siri to program World Cup at a party, pull a certain dessert mentioned in your Messages, and create a menu, all before sending an invitation to your friends with all the details. Siri AI will work on all Apple devices and apps like yours The iPhone, MacBook, The iPad again Apple Watch.
Maybe that sounds simple, but you indeed Want Siri to have access to all your apps and devices?
As an avid Apple user, I can’t say I want anything else Integration of AI. Trust Apple Intelligence managing a project from start to finish without intervention can feel like a gamble. It raises questions about who is responsible for incorrect information or errors. And what if hackers get access to the app, anyway Apple Privacy guarantees?
I use Siri for simple tasks, like getting directions, sending my ETA to a friend, turning on the morning alarm or playing a song from Spotify. But that’s about it. I am OK with managing certain tasks, such as organizing calendar invitations, writing notes and creating party invitations to send to my friends. They are fast, and I feel comfortable knowing they are made just the way I want them. Also, completing some of those tasks creates connections with jobs and people I love.
Empowering Siri AI to handle my tasks could mean less screen time and more quality time with my family. But it does not provide the guarantee of knowing that the tasks are performed perfectly and in the way that I would like. It also distracts me from the small details that matter — like coming across my son’s graduation photo while scrolling through weeks of messages from my husband to find out what meal we agreed on for movie night.
Always An AI chatbot warnings about errors. These models are known to make things up, mix things up or fail to follow directions. Doing tasks for myself instead of blindly trusting Siri AI gives me peace of mind knowing it’s done satisfactorily. And despite Apple Privacy and security measures, I’m not very comfortable with letting Siri AI put together personalized messages about where to pick up my son.

We love Apple, not AI
Many US adults are still hesitant to use AI for certain tasks. A March NBC poll found AI to be one of the most unpopular things in America. And a CNET survey last year found that only 12% of US Apple users want to upgrade theirs smartphones it will be fueled by better integration of AI.
Yet tech giants are still forcing AI features into us with built-in features that are difficult or impossible to get out of. Often, hardware and software innovation are so deeply intertwined that it is difficult to avoid tapping into this AI-charged power. AI-powered Siri has certainly been in the spotlight this year WWDCand many other non-AI software updates on the back burner.
I can’t say I’m eager to try Siri AI, and I’ll probably opt out of some settings to keep my data as protected as possible. I don’t feel comfortable giving Siri full access to my calendar, location, emails and contacts to handle tasks without my supervision. I may not move as fast as a bot, but I will have more peace of mind.
