Couple Arrested, 3 Children Found Living In Unbearable Conditions

Authorities in Georgia have arrested a couple for negligence after police found their children – including a three-year-old with a circumcision wound – living in “unbearable” conditions during a recent evacuation.
Mackenzie Zoriah Whitfield again Anthony Clark Jr. both have been charged with three counts of child abuse, according to online records viewed by Us Weekly.
Whitfield and Clark, both 24 years old, were arrested after police said they found three young children, including a three-month-old baby, living in an unsanitary area of their Augusta apartment in Augusta.
Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they first reported to Whitfield and Clark’s home to evict the couple. However, they decided to check the cleanliness of the home after smelling urine and feces when they arrived.
Deputies searched the apartment and allegedly found the floors full of sewage, as well as garbage and rotting food strewn everywhere.
A three-month-old boy, a one-year-old girl and a three-year-old were all found inside the home and showing signs of neglect, according to court documents reviewed Us. Police said the three-month-old boy had a flat area on the side of his head and bumps, and was reportedly found in a heavily soiled bed. Deputies cleaned up the boy, who cried while taking care of him.
Deputies also said that the three-year-old boy, who was reported to have recently been circumcised, was infected with the virus. Additionally, the boy’s legs were covered in dried feces, in each place.
“This residence was in an unbearable condition,” one deputy said of the scene.
Deputies continued to search the home, reportedly finding bed bugs, overflowing garbage cans, dirty diapers and dirty mattresses. Authorities also noted that there was a limited amount of food to eat at home, as well as a few canned goods.
When deputies found a stained mattress in the master bedroom, they said the other child did not have a bed and appeared to be sleeping on the floor.
After police discovered the circumstances of the home, all three children were taken into the custody of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
In addition to being charged with three counts of child abuse, Whitfield was also charged with violating parole.
Whitfield is the mother of all three children, and Clark is the father of the two older children. It is not clear if the father of the three-month-old child is in the picture or if he knew the condition of his child.
Both Whitfield and Clark are currently in custody at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. Court dates have not been publicly disclosed by the couple.
It is not yet clear whether Whitfield and Clark have retained legal representation or entered their pleas following their arrest.
County Sheriff’s Office said Us that they have no further updates to share at press time.
