Tiger Woods delivers a cryptic message about his return to the TGL Tour

When will Tiger Woods return to pro golf? He is one of the biggest unanswered questions of the 2026 season. Woods is working his way back from his latest surgery and has been tight-lipped about his progress.
That changed Sunday night, when Woods answered a direct question about when he would return to the course. But instead of clearing things up, Tiger’s cryptic response instead raised more questions.
Here’s what you need to know.
Woods talks Masters returns to TGL game
Last October, Woods underwent back surgery for the seventh time, putting his return to golf in doubt.
As a result, Tiger did not play in the 2026 Cognizant Classic, which ended Sunday, and did not make it onto the PGA Tour at all in 2026. But Woods made a televised appearance at a tournament featuring professional golfers on Sunday: his team’s latest Jupiter Links TGL.

Tiger did not play in Sunday night’s game. Instead, he was there to cheer on his team. The support didn’t seem to help much, as Jupiter lost to Boston Common Golf Club 7-6. Currently ranked fifth out of six teams, the Tiger squad is in danger of missing the play-offs for the second year in a row.
At one point during the game, Tiger was interviewed on ESPN. Finally, the question was asked of the 15-time winner: how close is he to returning to competitive golf?
That’s when Tiger gave his confusing answer.
“I’m playing Guest, I’m ready to go,” Woods said, smiling.
Judging by the way Tiger delivered his words, you might think he was implying that his return is imminent. But his reference to “Guest Member” changes that conclusion. Given the timing of his comments on Sunday, Woods may have been referring to the Seminole Pro-Member, a special event he regularly plays on Monday.
Here’s the problem: Tiger is not in this year’s Seminole-Pro Member field. So if he was referring to that event when he said “Guest Member,” that would suggest that he “isn’t ready to go yet.”
While Tiger Woods may make his pro golf return in 2026
The most likely place for Woods to make the first start of his comeback is the 2026 Masters. Tiger returned from injury at the Masters earlier. And as a five-time Masters champion, it stands to reason that if he’s healthy enough to play the Masters, he will. If he does, it will be his first pro start since the 2024 Open Championship.
Woods gave a previous update on his life during a separate TGL match in late January.
“I’m starting to make short irons, so that’s about it,” Woods said. “I need a little more than that to be able to play [on TGL]. At my speed right now, I might play the Stinger hole. Just take it off the tee. But no, I’m improving, which is good. I’m getting there and I’m getting stronger. It’s one of those things where it takes a long time for the bone to heal and the bone to set.
Two weeks ago at the Genesis Invitational, which he hosts, Woods gave more details on his progress.

“It’s one of those things where every day, I keep trying, I keep trying, I keep working on it, I’m trying to get stronger, I’m trying to get more endurance in this body and I’m trying to get it to a level where I can play at a high level again,” Woods said in Riviera.
The Masters will begin on Thursday, April 9, which will give Woods four more weeks to prepare his body and his game for the start. As a past champion, he has an automatic invitation to play the Masters for life. That means he doesn’t technically need to commit until the tournament starts.
It is unlikely that he will decide to play a PGA Tour event before the Masters. But the PGA Tour Champions is another question.
Rumors have surfaced that Woods could play on the senior tour in 2026 as he is 50 years old and fit. The biggest advantage of the PGA Tour Champions for Tiger is that he will be allowed to use a golf cart, which will be easier on his body.
After this week, there are only two PGA Tour Champions events left on the schedule before the 2026 Masters: the Cologuard Classic from March 20-22 in Arizona and the Hoag Classic from March 27-29 in Rhode Island.
