Iran has launched missiles and drones targeted US military bases in several Middle Eastern countries on Friday, retaliating after joint US-Israeli strikes on sites linked to Iran’s military and nuclear weapons program.

Explosions were reported in or near areas where American forces in Bahrain, Qatar, in Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Jordanaccording to district officials and government media accounts. Many of those governments say their air defense systems intercept incoming projectiles.

It is not clear if any US service members were killed or injured, and the extent of possible damage to US facilities has not been confirmed. US officials have not publicly released death tolls or official damage assessments.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the operation as a direct response to what Tehran called an “attack” on Iranian territory earlier in the day. Iranian officials say they targeted US military infrastructure and command posts.

The United States military has previously struck what officials described as high-value Iranian targets, including IRGC sites, naval assets and underground facilities believed to be related to Iran’s nuclear program. Another US official told Fox News that the US military “suppressed” Iranian air defenses during the initial strikes.

Tomahawk cruise missiles were used in the first phase of the US operation, according to a US official. The operation has been described as a multi-zone operation designed to overwhelm Iran’s defense capabilities and could continue for days. The officials also revealed that the US used attack drones in a single combat operation for the first time.

Iran’s retaliatory strikes targeted countries that host US forces, including Bahrain – home to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet – as well as Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base and the UAE’s Al Dhafra Air Base. The authorities in those countries reported that they intercepted many of the incoming missiles. At least one citizen was killed in the UAE by falling debris, according to local authorities.

Iranian officials characterized their response as proportionate and warned of further action if the strikes continued. A senior American official explained this Iranian revenge as “not effective,” although independent evaluation of the overall impact is still under development.

Regional governments have condemned the strikes on their territory as a violation of sovereignty, which risks more countries becoming directly involved if the escalation continues.

The situation remains fluid, with military and diplomatic channels active throughout the region. Pentagon officials are expected to provide further updates as damage assessments and risk assessments are completed.
