Wife of Los Angeles Dodgers Freddie Freeman Expecting 4th Child

Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman and his wife, Chelseathey are expecting their fourth child via surrogate.
The baseball player, 36, and Chelsea, 34, shared a joint Instagram post on Sunday, February 22, confirming the exciting news. “Worth the wait. Baby #4 is on the way and our hearts are so full,” the post read. “We are so grateful for the wonderful woman who helped bring our child into our lives, and we choose to respect her privacy as we navigate this chapter.”
The couple, who share three sons, Charlie, born in 2016, Brandon, born in 2020, and Maximus, born in 2021, then asked their social media followers, “What do you think … brother or sister?” The caption accompanied a photo of a family that saw one of their sons holding up a black and white sonogram.
The news comes after Chelsea spoke to him Us Weekly last year regarding a health emergency that rocked the couple’s family. After Maximus was rushed to the hospital in July 2024 because he could not sit, stand or walk, he was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease: Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves.
Chelsea, who described the situation as the most “scary” thing she’s ever been through, said Us in March 2025, “He’s been so resilient. It’s been amazing to see. He’s still crazy [physical therapy] twice a week. It will be a whole year of recovery before he is back to normal.”
He added that the family has been looking for a silver lining amid the health scare. “It’s clear that it taught us that life is everything. It was very bad. He was completely disabled on a ventilator. To see him able to play outside, it’s really a miracle how sick he was,” he explained at the time.
The couple’s fourth child is not the first to be conceived through surrogacy. In 2021, ESPN reports that the Freemans “explored fertility treatments” after trying to conceive after the birth of their oldest son. After a surrogate was arranged to carry her second child, Chelsea also became pregnant “almost simultaneously,” according to the outlet.
The athlete told this newspaper that they were hoping that their story would inspire other parents who were hopeful. “Every pregnancy and birth journey is a little different for everyone … I think it’s an inspiring story that we have,” she said. “We tried for a few years, to no avail, we talked to doctors and they suggested that someone marry him.
Chelsea added that she was hoping for a big family after meeting Freddie. “I’ve known him for a long time, he said since he was a little boy, he always knew he wanted to be a father,” he told the newspaper. “As important as being a baseball player is to him, I think being a father is more important.”
Regarding her desire to become a mother, she said, “It was always my dream to have three children by the time I was 30 years old. When my birthday came and I turned 29 before I got pregnant, I never thought it would happen. I think our story is a story that God always has a great plan. Whether the family is looking to raise children, adopted or adopted, no matter where they come from, the children … [children] they are truly a blessing to any family.”
