Since Tracker premiering in February 2024, viewers tune in week after week to see fictional survivor Colter Shaw (Hartley) travel the country to help solve missing persons cases. With Colter’s help, the ensemble cast grew to include characters like Teddi (Robin Weigert) and Velma (Abby McEnany), Bobby the shooter (Eric Grise) and lawyer Reenie (Fiona Rene).

“I don’t want the show to be a phone buddy every week. I think that gets old, and Justin always challenges me on that. He’s like, ‘Do we need to do this? Do I need to call Bobby every time? Can I do this?’ “Reid told us specifically in May 2025. “You don’t want to [always] look at Reenie. He talks to Velma for two seconds. He might talk to Bobby on one phone call. The plan works because he is on Justin’s shoulder.”

Reid noted that they didn’t want to Tracker to “feel comfortable.”

“The rule that I really have for the show is that every week Colter will come to a new place and there will be a new case. How he gets those answers and how he uses them on the team, that’s all something that has to be caught,” Reid teased. “Meeting these people [local] unusual characters is something we will try to do more of as the season goes on. Colter just walks in and interacts with the other characters. It’s great to see Justin stretch those muscles and the guest cast is really great.”

Weigert, McEnany and Grise are all gone Tracker in the first two seasons. Hartley, 49, has struck gold with a host of returning stars Jensen AcklesHartley’s wife, Sofia Pernas, Melissa Roxburgh again Jennifer Morrison.

Season 3, which returns March 1, will introduce Kathleen Robertson and Mark Engelhardt in recurring roles. Robertson will play Maxine, who is described as “a successful attorney at a large firm who wants to get involved” with Reenie in what “Maxine convinces is a tough job for an upcoming class action suit.” It soon becomes clear, however, that “Maxine may have a completely different game that she’s playing.”

Meanwhile, Engelhardt will play the role of Emile Lang, “a man with his morals.” The newcomer is “cold, calculating and methodical,” according to her character description.

Tracker returns to CBS on Sunday, March 1, at 9 pm ET.
