Collin Morikawa Reveals Wife Is Expecting First Child After Emotional Overcoming

Golfer Collin Morikawa has a lot to celebrate after winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
When asked why this time was “special” with the wife Katherine Zhu after winning on Sunday, February 15 – his first Tour victory in two years – Morikawa, 29, replied, “Many reasons.”
“Golf aside, we’re actually expecting later this year, in a couple of months. We just started telling people this week,” he told CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis while smiling. “We said what’s the best way, the best way, to just announce to the world if I can go out and win.”
He went on to say “there is a lot in life and a lot to be happy about, I am strengthening myself as I said yesterday, I am grateful to the people around me, my team, Kat, my wife, my parents, my brother. I am speechless right now.”
Morikawa and Zhu, a marathon runner and former golfer, tied the knot in 2022. After three years, Morikawa admitted it can be “very difficult” to focus on anything other than golf when things aren’t going his way.
“Golf is a big part of my life and who I am,” Morikawa said alone Us Weekly in 2025. “When it’s going well, it’s very easy to isolate yourself. But when it’s not going well, your mind is always thinking about golf. ‘How do I keep getting better?’ Because that’s the chase. That’s what we’re all trying to achieve: to get better every day. ‘How do we continue to improve? What do I have to do to give myself a chance to win on Sunday?’ It’s just an endless cycle.”
Morikawa shared that golfers are forced to be at a different level of “mental toughness” than athletes who compete in other sports.
“It takes a toll on you,” she said. “I don’t think people realize the stress it puts on our bodies that we go through every day. We’re trying to perfect this game, really, that we’re not going to be perfect. We can’t go 4-for-4 with five RBIs and two home runs. Nobody’s going to have 18 birdies in a round. There’s always going to be issues that you have to think about that people are wrong about and I’ve had a big part to think about.
Morikawa said Zhu has been beneficial to his mental health.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a necessity for everyone, but it’s a necessity for me,” Morikawa said of her marriage. “I’m so proud of him. I think the inspiration he gives me is what he does with his running, it pushes me every day to be better. He played golf in college and quit after a year of playing pro, and he was able to go with me.”
Morikawa continued, “It’s a blessing to have your best friend by your side and to be able to go out and enjoy life, travel the world, see new places and do what I love.
