Rick Caruso gives full endorsement of Matt Mahan for CA governor

Rick Caruso has fully endorsed San Jose Democrat Mayor Matt Mahan for governor of California, saying Mahan is “the only proven person” in the race.

A billionaire real estate developer in Los Angeles, who recently dropped out of the race for mayor of Los Angeles and governor of CA, said he knows that Mayor SJ is the only one who can fix many of the problems facing the state.

In a video posted on X, the Republican-turned-Democrat stood by Mahan, calling him “one of the brightest and most talented leaders in our state.”

Caruso added that Mahan is “full of fresh ideas to deliver solutions without getting bogged down by party nonsense.”

“He is the only candidate in the race who is an executive who has successfully run something in the private sector,” and as mayor of San Jose, Caruso said.

The real estate developer said Mahan “is the only candidate in the race who knows that fixing California’s problems isn’t about rehashing old Washington, DC political arguments. It’s about making the real changes we need to achieve real commonsense solutions.”

However, as to what those solutions were, Caruso and Mahan did not elaborate.

Caruso also wrote in X that Mahan “is a doer, not a talker. While others argue about politics, Matt delivers results. He knows that fixing California takes practical, rational solutions that make life better for people.”

Caruso recently teased a return to the LA mayoral race following reports that embattled LA Mayor Karen Bass changed the Palisades wildfire report, The Post reported.

“Well, I got a lot of calls today, as you can imagine, and I know there are a lot of posts on X and other places asking me to come in again, and I’m happy about that,” he said in an interview with KNX News.

“I don’t have much time to decide, obviously, because we have a deadline coming up this Saturday,” added the 67-year-old billionaire architect. “I’m still going to meet and talk with the family, we’ll see what we decide to do.”

However, after a while, Caruso’s political adviser, Mike Murphy, told the Los Angeles Times that he would not run.

“Rick has been incredibly touched by the outpouring of support but has come to this decision through a thoughtful and firm process,” Murphy said. “He will not be the mayor.”
