‘The Industry’ Season 4 Episode 5 Finale Explained: Miriam Petche Doesn’t Think Sweetpea Should Have Been Hurt In Ghana

Industry Season 4 Episode 5 “Faceless Eyes” shifts the focus away from London, England to Accra, Ghana. There, Sweetpea Golightly (Miriam Petche) and Kwabena Bannerman (Toheeb Jimoh) search for the truth about tender funds. What the duo discovered this week on the HBO drama is both exciting and terrifying at the same time.

Sweetpea is able to prove that Tender’s original findings were false. In addition, the tender funds were built on the basis of fraudulent agreements in succession. The whole business is a con. However, in order to reveal this truth, Sweetpea must first put herself in great danger.

After meeting African CFO Tony Day (Stephen Campbell Moore), Sweetpea is threatened by a man in a public restroom. Sweetpea fights back and soon gets her face smashed into a vanity mirror, leaving her with a broken nose.

“I think it’s not meant to go up where it’s meant to go up,” Industry star Miriam Petche told DECIDER. “I think someone was sent to scare him, but it was not handled well.

Petche said exercising “naturally allowing that time to go from bad to bad was really fun for him” and he’s glad Sweetpea got the spotlight.

“I felt very honored to do that episode in particular,” she said.

After the attack, Kwabena helps Sweetpea to contact a local woman who is able to confirm their suspicions. When they finally track down Tender’s address in Accra and find that it is empty, they have concrete evidence that Tender is a fake.

Sweetpea and Kwabena return to London victorious, but Sweetpea is still battered and bruised by her experience. When her boss, Harper Stern (Myha’la) offers a rare olive branch of friendship, Sweetpea declines. She ends the episode alone in her house, crying.

“There are a few times when I wish Sweetpea would let Harper be with her when she needs someone to be with, when she’s not in a good place,” Petche said. “I think Harper is giving another step to the friendship that Sweetpea is holding back for her own safety because she believes she has to deal with it alone, which is very sad.”

“Yes, I think he doesn’t know how to have a female friend passing by the workplace.”

In Sweetpea’s defense, you wouldn’t blame her for being wary of Harper Stern, a character who is notorious for always putting herself first.

“I think Sweetpea really respects Harper. She respects a very smart, uncompromising woman,” Petche said. “But then, you know, the idealized version of him takes the place of the real person when they work together.”

“You start to get frustrated when Harper works for his own interests rather than for the team. There are these moments where he’s like, ‘What are you doing? You know, this could be amazing. Why are we working with each other?’

Here’s hoping for Sweetpea’s sake that the hard part of SternTao learns to work together more in the coming weeks.
