Prime Day MacBook deals guide: Should you wait to buy?

Big Day 2026 is upon us – and so is one of the best times to get a deal on a MacBook. I’ve been covering Amazon’s flagship summer sale for seven years now, and I’ve noticed that Apple laptops always drop at very low prices as part of the festivities. (If they don’t hit record-lower, at least close.)
Every current MacBook is already on sale ahead of Prime Day, which starts tomorrow June 23 and runs until June 26, but I wouldn’t recommend grabbing one just yet. Amazon likes to save its best deals for Prime Day proper, which means its discounts will increase when the sale starts tomorrow. We can get our first big discount on the new budget MacBook Neo; this is its first Great Day.

Read on for my predictions for the best Prime Day MacBook deals, from the Neo to the M5 MacBook Air and M5 MacBook Pros. Now is also a good time to check out my alternative MacBook buying guide if you’re not sure which model is right for you.
Prime Day MacBook Neo deals you should check out
Amazon hasn’t completely resisted selling the Neo — it’s been $9 for a few weeks now — but it’s not getting as big a price cut as Apple’s other laptops. (This is probably because it’s already full price.) With that in mind, I wouldn’t count on Amazon matching Apple’s $100 student discount on Big Day; it’s still the best option to buy a Neo if you qualify. But I saw Amazon ditching the basic model $549or a $50 discount, to attract back-to-school shoppers who don’t have the quality of Apple’s education prices.

Prime Day MacBook Air deals to check out
Last year’s 13- and 15-inch M4 MacBook Airs received $150 discounts for Prime Day 2025, but we’ve already seen the new M5 models go on sale for $200 this spring. While those deals weren’t live at the time of writing, I expect Amazon will renew them once Big Day rolls around tomorrow. Check out the records below $899 of the 13-inch configuration and $1,099 with its 15-inch sibling.

Prime Day MacBook Pro deals to check out
The base 14-inch MacBook Pro has an M5 chip, 16GB of RAM, and a terabyte of storage. Amazon is currently selling it for $1,549, or $150 off, but I won’t be adding it to my cart just yet. It fell to $1,499 at the beginning of this month, and that lowest is likely to come on Day One. You might have to be a little more patient, though: Last year, a similarly priced M4 MacBook Pro didn’t get a $200 discount until the fourth (last) day of the sale.

If you need more power for paid creative work or AI, there’s also a 14-inch MacBook Pro that can be configured with an M5 Pro or M5 Max chip. If anything, the entry-level M5 Max model is a safe buy right now: It’s currently on sale for its low price of $3,316.31or a discount of $282.69. (The base model M5 Pro is still $50-ish away from its record low $1,983.94which would save you around $215.) However, its M4 Max counterpart also got a lot cheaper as Prime Day went on last year – reaching a discount price of more than $400. If you’re dropping this much money on a new laptop, I think it’s wise to wait and see if the prices drop even further.
