Geno Smith’s alleged battery is being ‘extensively investigated’ by police

Police in Davie, Florida, backtracked after initially saying the investigation into Geno Smith’s alleged battery had been closed, now saying it is “under investigation.”
Davie Police Department officers were called to the Jets quarterback’s home in Florida around 4:40 p.m. Sunday for an alleged battery, but a police spokeswoman could not provide additional details about the incident.
A spokesperson initially told The California Post’s Ed Lewis that “no one is in custody” and the investigation has been closed.
On Monday evening, however, a spokesperson for the department told many outlets that the incident is actually being investigated.
“We were informed earlier this evening, that during the review, it was found that this case is still being investigated by the investigator,” said a spokesperson for USA Today. “It is active and we cannot release any further details at this time.”
The newspaper also reported that the spokesman could not explain why the Davie Police Department changed the name of anyone who called to continue the investigation into the incident.
A police report on the incident will be available when detectives close the investigation and he is authorized to be released, according to USA Today.
The alleged incident came to light after a woman named Kristen made claims in videos on her Instagram Story that Smith had put his hands on her, captioning the 80-plus second video that the NFL QB “hit me.”
“Today is THE DAY!” the text is readable. “GENO SMITH hit me because he HATE taking care of his special needs child and won’t be left alone because he’d rather watch s*x on the internet and play Call of Duty.”
The woman in the video says on camera that Smith “ran outside and attacked me” and, following an argument in the street, ran down the street screaming for help.

She also said Smith broke into her computer, dumped her purses and stole money from her car.
The woman also showed a short clip of Smith talking to uniformed police officers.
Smith has not commented publicly on the allegations, and the Jets did not comment when reached by The California Post.
The mother of Smith’s son, Seven, took to social media to defend the player on Sunday.
In her Instagram stories, she addressed Kristen’s comments, saying that Smith “is there and has always been able to take care of her son.”
“Let’s kill that story. Don’t go online and bring my son into your web of dysfunction,” he wrote again.
Smith was a member of the Jets at the beginning of this offseason when he was traded by the Raiders to Gang Green, returning to the organization he played for from 2013-16.
He is expected to be the Jets starting next season.
