The Burbs’ Keke Palmer Talks Big Changes From Movie to Show

Keke Palmer is moving forward with his return to TV with adaptations The Burbs The movie was a program, which came with other on-screen changes.

“I feel like I’ve done TV for the last time [Scream Queens]that was 10 years ago,” Palmer, 32, said to himself Us Weekly before The ‘Burbs premieres Sunday, February 8. “That’s crazy.”

Palmer credited the dark humor for preparing him for a murder mystery with a great ensemble cast, adding, “It’s great to be surrounded by this great cast. Everyone is so funny and crazy in real life and on the show.”

The slasher series, which premiered in 2015, starred an ensemble that included Palmer, Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Billie Lourd, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin again Glen Powell. In the first season of the show, Scream Queens centers on members of the Kappa Kappa Tau faculty who are being murdered by the mysterious assassin Red Devil.

While The ‘Burbs draws on the movie when it comes to a mystery in a small town, there have been attempts to revive the base.

“Obviously Seth MacFarlane, Brian Grazer and Celeste Hughey — when they came to me — they had already made this decision to remake one of these great IPs. So I remember coming to them and saying, ‘What’s this going to be like?’ I didn’t know the first one so I had to dig for it,” Palmer recalled. “When I read the script, I was really impressed. Because there’s always this thing when a remake happens — especially when it’s focused on changing not only the gender but also the background. You’re like, ‘How much does this play into this and is this version? Or up, what’s this story going to be?’

He continued: I knew from the pilot that it was much more than I expected. So when I had that first meeting with them, it was this really cool way where we talked about racial tension, motherhood and being a new couple while trying to make it through that early stage of having a little one. There are strange neighbors and people you shouldn’t get along with. However as the series progresses he uses humor and uses the horror genre. There is just a heart at the core, which allows the viewer to take a journey of understanding things and seeing things differently again. This is the kind of work I like.”
