How to import chatbot memories into Gemini
The setting to import your previous chatbot memory into Gemini is front and center in the settings.
Gemini doesn’t have a built-in way to export a chatbot’s memory, but you can tell it to pull relevant information it’s learned about you and add it to your new chatbot — and sometimes your old chatbot can help you come up with the right information.
For example, Claude provides a command to give to your old chatbot, and you can use the feedback to add it to Gemini. Claude’s briefing is long and detailed, starting with, “Send all my saved memories and any context you’ve learned about me from past conversations.”
Once you’ve received your previous chatbot deployment, go to Gemini to import a memory.
- Go to gemini.google.com
- Sign in to your Google account
- Select the Settings it’s a mess
- Select Import Memory into Gemini
With the output provided by your previous chatbot, paste it into the text box in Gemini and click Add memory. Gemini will begin to digest the information, and your memories will be preserved.
How to import past conversations into Gemini
Depending on which chatbot you’re from, importing a memory into Gemini can be fun.
If you’ve already extracted your chats from your old chatbot, you can upload the zip file directly to Gemini in the same place you would import the memory.
Below the copy and paste memory import section of the Gemini section is a place where you can add zip files from supported AI providers. (Remember that the maximum file size supported by Gemini for upload is 5GB.)
Imported conversations will have an icon next to them to indicate that they were taken from another source.

Getting your conversations out of Gemini is very involved
Gemini doesn’t have a built-in way to export your chats when you move to another chatbot. Instead, you’ll need to use Google Takeout to get all of your Gemini data.
Here’s how:
- Go to takeout.google.com.
- Sign in to the account you want to send data to.
- Click Deselect all.
- Scroll down and select Gemini.
- Click The next step.
You will have the option to choose where to send your data. If it is not already selected, click the drop-down box below Transfer to and select Email the download link. Save the file type as a .zip file and choose how large you prefer the file size to be. Then click Create an export.
From there, you’ll just need to wait until you receive an email with a download link to download your data. Depending on how much data you can send, you may receive multiple files. If you receive a download link, you will be able to upload it to your new chatbot if it supports the feature.
