Rikers’ dine-and-dasher and more: Letters

It is not a crime to eat
It amazes me that dine-and-dash diva Pei Chung, whose crimes are non-violent and involve her breaking out of a dinner cell, is sitting in a cell at Rikers Island (“Dine dasher ducks court,” Feb. 5).
During that time, I read stories about subway cutters and violent repeat offenders who are somehow still off the streets. What’s going on in this city that it’s hard to tell which criminals are really dangerous? Let Chung get out of prison to make room for people who really deserve to be there.

Employers are in trouble
Your article about New York City’s rental market says that the rent freeze “will also prevent stable renters from moving . . . making it harder for New Yorkers to find a home” (“Rental health crisis,” Feb. 5).
So, stable tenants should move – but where? The point here is, who cares as long as they leave, so someone else can come in? That is the selfish philosophy of someone in the hotel business, not the real estate business.

Step aside, Powell
For the good of the country, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell needs to step down as chairman and let Kevin Warsh take over as soon as possible to lower interest rates now (“Don’s Fed pick a joke,” Feb. 2).
President Trump has shown the American people that he is willing to take full ownership and responsibility for the US economy. Powell should step aside and let Trump — for better or worse — own it.

Protect the Blue
I want to commend The Post for writing about the killing of officer Pradeep Tamang in Georgia after an unprovoked attack. (“Officer killed in Ga. hotel,” Feb. 3).
Articles like this show how badly we need to support the police.

We want ICE out
Corey DeAngelis shows an extreme lack of empathy for the teachers and school children he says he wants to help (“Teachers’ Union and Dems,” PostOpinion, Feb. 4).
Minneapolis teachers protect our students. They, their students and their families are shocked by what Homeland Security is doing.
That’s not just what happened to 5-year-old Liam Ramos or nurse Alex Pretti or mother Renee Good. Teardrops and flash-bangs are the norm; the country has seen videos on television and social media.
We want ICE out of Minnesota because ICE is making weapons. We are trying to protect young people from this abuse of power. It is very difficult to focus on reading or math when you are afraid that your parent will disappear.
If Corey really cared about the future of children, he would join us in strengthening ICE so that teachers can get back to teaching, instead of helping children deal with the trauma and chaos that ICE causes every day.

The Taiwan problem
The United States should encourage Taiwan to accept China, and become one country with two separate systems, like Hong Kong (“Don’s diplomatic phone call with Xi,” Feb. 5).
Why should a small island recognized by most of the world as part of China cause so many problems?
