Deadline broke news of Kevin Bacon and Andie MacDowel’s casting in the film. We also reported on the casting of Kristin Davis and Tig Notaro.
As the deadline specifically reported, Bridgerton alum Phoebe Dynevor, who led the first season of the Shonda Rhimes and Netflix series based on Julia Quinn’s books, will star as January Andrews. Deadline also broke the news that Patrick Schwarzenegger is still young The White Lotus Season 3 and The Love of Your Life and Margaret Qualley, will play Augustus ‘Gus’ Everett.
“‘Patrick is a little hot,’ is what I wrote in my notes after meeting him for the first time. There was something about the way he talked about his feelings about love and romance that I will never forget. But I was not sure that we would find our Gus, because I knew that we had to work hard in our efforts, given how important this character is to the readers,” said writer/director Yulin on Instagram.

Kuang described a six-month process of searching for Gus that involved reviewing dozens of tapes, sending availability checks and taking meetings.
“Once we knew Phoebe was going to be our January, my efforts became very focused and specific — not about who would play the best Gus in terms of the script, but who would play the best Gus as opposed to our particular January,” he added. “That meant in-person director sessions and chemistry lessons with Phoebe.” When Patrick was sitting across from her, there was something electric in the room with us.” I wrote in my notes after that: “There is magic that we must pursue.” I checked with Phoebe after the reading and she said, “It’s obviously Patrick, isn’t it?” and I thought, ‘He feels it too.’
What Beach Read by Emily Henry about?
Andrews is a successful romance writer who, struggling with author’s grief after the death of his father, returns to his summer house on Lake Michigan to discover the great secrets he has been keeping for her. While spending the summer at her beach house to prepare it for sale, she suddenly runs into Gus Everett, her college rival and now a famous author in her own right. The two make a pact to swap genres to shake off their creative blocks, vowing not to start their own summer romance, but words only go so far.

Deadline broke the news in April 2023 that Yulin Kuang will adapt and direct the film adaptation Beach Read 20th Century Studios produced the original film. He was also a writer People We Meet On Vacation.
Neal H. Moritz produces his own films. Karina Rahardja will produce. Sarah Shepard and Catherine Hughes presided over the 20th. The literary affairs team, chaired by Clare Reeth, led the lobbying efforts for the book.
