Alexandra Grant Details Living With Keanu Reeves For Character

Keanu Reeves‘ long time partner, Alexandra Granthe knows better than anyone how dedicated the actor is to grooming his characters – even at home.
“I think we share [just] belief in [our] projects,” said Grant, 53, a visual artist People on Thursday, May 28, for his and Reeves’ dedication to their creative endeavors. “Every project has its own autonomy, its own team, it has its own kind of rules, and it has a beginning, a middle and an end.”
He explained, “So we’re both people who do projects, and you know, I’ve lived with John Wick, I’ve lived with Neo,” referring to Reeves’ role as John Wick from the action movie franchise and Neo in. The Matrix films.
Reeves, 61, created the character of gangster Thomas Anderson, better known as Neo, in 1999. The Matrix and has acted with him in three other films. He played John Wick in four movies, starting in 2014 John Wick. He reprized his role again in 2025 Ballerina.
Grant, who has been dating the actor since 2017, shared, “When he’s in character, for example, I respect that understanding so much that this is the middle to the end of the project, right?”
He noted that “it’s the same as painting.” Grant, who has exhibited his work around the world, added, “When I’m in the artist’s scene, I’m in it.

The couple later incorporated a publishing house, X Artists’ Books (XAB), in 2017, two years before they went public with their relationship. (November 2019, Us Weekly confirmed that Reeves and Grant began dating in the summer of 2017.)
At the core of their love is their “respect” for each other and love of the arts, according to Grant.
“I’d say the key is mutual respect and like, come on, it’s a game, right? It’s a game we get to play skillfully,” Grant explained Thursday, noting that over time he and Reeves learned to navigate their creative spaces together.
The LOVEwine founder noted that Reeves is “always very appreciative” and “observant” of feedback, which he is also good at.
“You want to stay respectful and leave someone else to bake their cake, just talking about my love makes me sweat,” said Grant. “I can say that there is all the listening in the world that we know that we can talk about any problem or challenge or creative idea and talk about it forever if needed, and respect the need of each person to dive deep and have a process that may be silent or otherwise collaborative.
