The Seattle Mariners chose to beat the Athletics after Logan Gilbert’s best road numbers this season

America 250: Jackie Robinson
In 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier of Major League Baseball, becoming the first African American player in the modern era. He went on to win Rookie of the Year in 1947 and was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
I won’t waste a ton of words on this, but I want to share a quick gameplay that has nothing to do with this topic. The Colorado Rockies are +330 tonight, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are -440. I’ll take a shot at the Rockies – not a full unit, but a sprinkle.
The Dodgers shouldn’t be thrown into a parlay, which is instinctive with heavy favorites. A lot of times in baseball, these big dogs make money, and I pick these spots every season. I’ll be on the West Coast for the game between the Seattle Mariners and the Athletics.

The Mariners didn’t do well. About one-third of the way through this season, the Mariners aren’t where people expect them to be. Maybe they’re fine where they are, given that no one in their class is doing very well.

They are in the easiest stage this season, so they can burn and win this easily. The Mariners are 27-29 on the year and are 13-14 on the road.
So what’s bothering the Mariners? They are one of the best hitting teams in baseball at .228. I think it’s finally turning around, but for now, they’re struggling. Their team ERA keeps them floating at 3.58, and a strong 1.22 WHIP also helps.
Logan Gilbert hasn’t been completely shut down, going 2-4 with a 4.04 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. However, he has been good on the road with a 1.19 ERA. In fact, he has allowed just three earned runs through four starts. He faced the Athletics once this season and allowed three earned runs in four innings. Overall, the Athletics are just 20 in 108 at-bats against him.

Athletics is about where we should have expected it. Are they competing? Yes. Are they ready to make a postseason run? Probably not. They are between 27-28, as it has been said, they are in the category that no one seems to want to win.
I’ve said this before, but Athletics is on a great path. Most of their timeline seems to coincide with the time they had a permanent home in Las Vegas, so it will be interesting to see what they do now as we enter the trade season.

Their parking staff will have to be addressed at another time. They have a 4.33 ERA and 1.41 WHIP as a team, which means there are a lot of traffic in the bases.
Today, they sent out Jeffrey Springs, who owns a 3-5 record, 4.11 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. He has been worse on the home rubber than the way he started this season. His home run ERA is high. The Athletics have also lost four consecutive Springs games. He didn’t face the Mariners this season, but he was good against them overall, posting a .197 average in 71 at-bats.

Neither the Mariners nor the Athletics have good numbers against a competitive starter, so that makes me think the edge here is less than five innings. I think both starters should be able to block opposing bats. I’ll take under 4.5 to five innings.

I will also back the Mariners to win this game at -130. They have taken the first two games of this series, and the Athletics are bad at home. I also think Seattle has the better starter, and Gilbert has been great on the road this season.
