2026 Female and Non-Binary Screenplay Revealed

INTERMEDIATE: Wscripted has launched its sixth Cannes Screenplay List showcasing projects by female and non-binary filmmakers and screenwriters seeking production and financing partners. (scroll down for full list)

The list was launched in partnership with MUBI, a long-time supporter of women in cinema, with recent female-directed acquisitions including the Cannes 2026 Un Certain Regard opener. Teen Sex and Death at Camp Miasma by Jane Schoenbrun.

The 30 games on this year’s list include When We Are Sisters by Fatimah Asghar, known for the HBO web series Black Girls again Ms. Marvel on Disney+.

Sri Lankan-British filmmaker Chloe Abrahams is also highlighted for her first narrative feature Before the Echo Made a Soundis in Sri Lanka. He previously made waves with Mango flavorwhich won the British Independent Film Award for Best Debut Documentary and the Audience Award at the BFI London Film Festival.

Angelique Knights, Canadian Screen Award winner as producer of Bria Mack Gets a Lifehe is also nominated for his first feature directorial debut Ecdysisset in the world of music video models during the height of music television in the 2000s.

In a new development, the list was presented to the producers in the new digital platform Wscripted+ with the aim of making the projects of simulation better.

“After five years of handing out projects from the Cannes Screenplay List to producers during the Cannes Film Market, we decided to do things differently in 2026 and let producers get shortlisted directly using the new Wscripted+ technology,” said Ellie Jamen, Founder of Wscripted.

Jamen said Wscripted hopes to shorten development lead times and funding with the new system.

“We are betting on new technologies to remove barriers so that producers can find the right projects that complement their creative work. This is an important part of our work to fight for the amazing projects of women selected on the Cannes Screenplay list”

Recent documented success stories from previous nominees include Jumai Yusuf’s pre-sale Cocoa dollwhich was shortlisted for the Second Cannes Screenplay. It has since been acquired by international sales agent Fearfolks, while Jake Casey and Jonathan Unger are producing.

Wscripted received 300 applications this year for this year’s list.
