Prince William Hints at George’s Boarding School Prep

Friday, May 22, episode of Hearty BreakfastWilliam, 43, revealed that George, 12, is preparing for boarding school, after noting that he would not be home to hear his radio show, which was recorded on the Isles of Scilly.

“Oh, Charlotte and Louis, because George is going to ride last night, so Charlotte, Louis, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time,” said the Prince of Wales. “Make sure you don’t fight over who’s listening to what in the morning.”

George, eldest son of William and wife Princess Kate Middletonthree children, he currently attends Lambrook School with his siblings. (William and Kate, 44, also have a daughter Princess Charlotte and a son Prince Louis.)

As George approaches his teenage years, royal watchers have been speculating about where he will go to school full-time, including whether he will follow in William’s footsteps and attend Eton College.

George’s current prep school only extends to Year 8 (between the ages of 12 and 13), but offers weekly flexi-boarding and flexi-boarding for children aged 7 to 13, according to the Lambrook website.

William’s comments on Friday appeared to confirm that George was flexi-boarding in preparation for a full-fledged academic transition as a teenager.

George was previously spotted visiting Eton College in 2023 with his mum and dad, adding fuel to rumors that he will start there in the next year or two.

The future king – second in line to the throne after William and his grandfather King Charles III – There were also rumors that he was considering Kate’s alma mater, Marlborough College.

Marlborough is co-educational, so if George goes there, he can study with Charlotte, 11, and Louis, 8, when they are older.

Apart from his next academic steps, George is preparing for his future role as Britain’s king, according to a royal historian. Marlene Koenig.

Koenig was told specifically Us Weekly in August 2025 that George is “certainly aware of his future role” as heir to the throne, but he won’t have to worry about taking the throne anytime soon, “barring accidents or health problems” on William’s end.

When it comes to Kate’s role in her son’s ascension to the throne, Koenig said, “She will have no constitutional role, unless she is an official in the worst case scenario, if George becomes king before the age of 18.”

The Princess of Wales will likely be there for George “as a loving, supportive mother,” Koenig said, “because he is her son first and foremost.”

William, meanwhile, made some unusual comments about George’s future career during the October 2025 episode. The Reluctant Traveler.

“Obviously, I want to create a world where my son is proud of what we do, the world and the work that has an impact on people’s lives for the better,” explained William. “That’s a warning, I hope we don’t go back to some of those old habits [my brother Prince] Harry and I had to grow up inside, and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure we don’t go back to that situation.”
