ABC ordered a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff is set in rural Texas – but how many other shows are there?
The medical drama, which premiered in 2005, focuses on the personal lives and professions of surgical students, residents and visiting at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital called Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital called Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Due to the nature of the show, Grey’s Anatomy has become known for its wild twists that often result in cast members leaving. The show’s success also paved the way for several spinoffs including Private Practice and Station 19.
In May 2026, news broke that ABC had acquired a follow-up Grey’s Anatomyto be set in rural West Texas. The upcoming series will be coordinated, written and produced by Shonda Rhimes again Grey’s Anatomy the exhibition Meg Marinis. Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo It is also the executive producer of a new offshoot, which will debut in the middle of the 2027 season.
“I’m incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe,” Marinis said in a statement. “This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved since Grey’s for over two decades – all in my hometown of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this powerful world and I feel so lucky to be a part of it.”
The show will be built around a new group of doctors but will likely be connected to Grey’s by one or more characters – possibly Debbie Allenby Catherine Fox.

‘Channel 19’
Set in Seattle, the series focuses on the lives of the men and women at Seattle Fire Station 19. Jason George from Gray and started in 2018 to 2024.
Untitled Rural Texas series
Deadline confirmed in May 2026 that ABC gave a direct order to the untitled medical drama, which is described as “an unlikely drama about a team at a rural West Texas medical center – a last chance for care before miles to nowhere.”
