Police Begin Search After Connecticut Shooting

Police are on the lookout for a suspect who may be armed after a shooting incident that occurred in Middletown, Connecticut, on Tuesday afternoon, May 19.
An investigation was launched on the afternoon of May 19, police believe the shooting was an isolated incident between two known parties. Additionally, no injuries were reported as part of the incident.
The Middletown Police Department issued a shelter-in-place order for streets including East Street, Westlake Drive, Smith Street, Country Club Road and Atkins Street shortly after the incident. However, the shelter was removed before the police could arrest the suspect.
The suspect was identified as Christopher Robert Lanewho was last seen wearing black. Police shared a photo of Lane, 29, and urged anyone who may come across him not to approach or contact him.
“The suspect is still at large and there will continue to be a heavy police presence in the Atkins Street and Industrial Park areas as officers investigate and search the area,” the police department wrote on Facebook on May 19. “Citizens are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.”
Investigators also shared the last known surveillance photo of Lane, taken in the 100 block of Roscommon Drive around 6:30 pm on May 19.
The search for Lane was ongoing as of press time on Wednesday, May 20. Police asked that anyone with information about Lane’s search call 911 immediately.
A shooting ensues, resident Matthew Garafolo he told Eyewitness News 3 that he was walking his dog when police began searching.
“It looks like SWAT just came out. They have drones and a lot of people are going up a second time,” he told the outlet.
Garafolo added that he saw state and Cromwell police investigating near his apartment.
He said: “They’re here. So, it’s a sight we don’t usually see here for sure.”
Garafolo also pointed out that the place is always busy and full of children and families.
“There’s a lot of woods in the area to worry about, but you just have to keep your head on a swivel,” he said of the search for Lane.
