Mother Forgives Child Abuse, Says ‘He’s Not Made Of Glass’

An Idaho mother has been arrested for child cruelty, and police say she tried to justify herself by “joking” her one-week-old daughter that she was “made of glass.”
Brenwyn Richey he reportedly told a witness that “people do it that way” when he was caught “rocking and shaking” his daughter like a rabbit doll, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime.
Witnesses reportedly told authorities they saw Richey, 26, drag the girl by the leg and hit the child hard on the knee several times.
Richey has also been accused of displaying violent behavior while trying to put his daughter to sleep since she was one week old and took two months after her birth.
Blackfoot Police Department officers responded to Richey’s apartment after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance on Dec. 28, 2025. He allegedly abused a child and admitted to police that he used excessive force, according to the affidavit.
“Richey admitted that he was ‘aggressive with his child at times,’ specifically saying that he would ‘ride the child on his leg hard’ and place the child on the bed with force or speed,” the affidavit said while recounting Richey’s interview with the officer. “Richey showed me with a leg kick, which I saw as a direct, quick and powerful movement.” He admitted the behavior was a recurring issue and said he was ‘trying to fix that.’
A witness told police that Richey hung and “hooked” the girl by the leg without properly supporting her around the neck when she was just one week old. Richey then told the witness that her daughter was “not glass” and “asserted that ‘people do,'” according to the affidavit.
Another witness told police that he saw Richey “rocking the baby,” and demonstrated the act by “stretching his arms and rocking them back and forth, describing ‘relentless cooing’ that would last between five and 15 minutes, or until the baby stopped crying.”
Police were called to Richey’s apartment a second time on December 29, 2025, and police called Child Protective Services to report the alleged abuse. After the agency consulted with the Bonneville County District Attorney’s Office, they began the emergency removal of Richey’s daughter from her home.
On January 2, the police were informed that the girl’s health was checked and it was found that there might be internal accidents. “The infant’s eyes appear to be ‘hanging’ in an unusual manner for his advanced age,” the affidavit said.
The infant had a follow-up examination on January 18, which allegedly revealed “chronic internal inflammation of unknown cause.”
Richey is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment on April 9. It is not yet clear if he pleaded guilty to the charge after his arrest.
The Blackfoot Police Department did not immediately respond Us Weeklyrequest for comment on the case.
