President Trump Says Tiger Woods ‘Lives a Life of Pain’

President Donald Trump provided an update on Tiger Woods just days after a pro golfer’s DUI arrest.
“I think he’s doing great, he’s doing great,” Trump, 79, told reporters The New York Post when he spoke to reporters on Tuesday, March 31.
Trump and Woods, 50, have known each other for years, with Trump calling him a “very close friend.” Woods is also dating Vanessa Trumpex-wife of Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
“He has tested positive for alcohol, as you know, and he is under a lot of stress on his body because of his various illnesses, you know, back and legs,” the President continued. “He’s living a life of pain. He’s in a lot of pain. He’s an amazing man. He’s an amazing athlete. He’s in pain.”
He clarified that while Woods “doesn’t have an alcohol problem,” he “does have pain.”
The President’s comments come days after Woods was involved in a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida on Friday, March 27. He was charged with DUI, vandalism and probation violation. Although Woods submitted to a breathalyzer test, which showed he had not consumed alcohol, he refused a urinalysis test.
The arrest affidavit obtained by Us Weekly he said the five-time Masters winner had two hydrocodone pills in his pocket at the time and that he was “tired and sluggish,” with eyes that were “red and glassy” with “wide-open” pupils.
He told police he lost control of his car while looking at his phone and changing the radio. The distraction prevented him from realizing that the car in front of him had slowed down before the crash.
Neither Woods nor Vanessa, 48, have spoken about the incident publicly, although Vanessa did repost some of her daughter Kai’s photos on Instagram over the weekend, showing Kai’s time at the Miami Open.
The couple first confirmed their relationship in March 2025 when Woods posted pictures of the two of them together on social media.
“Love is in the air and life is better when you’re around me!” he wrote the text. “We are looking forward to our journey of life together. Right now we would be happy to have privacy with all those close to our hearts.”
The two also received the President’s blessing that month.
“Tiger actually called me a few months ago,” he told reporters. “And he told me about it, and I said, ‘Tiger, that’s good, that’s good.’ I am very happy with both. They are both happy. They are both happy. They are both beautiful.”
