In 2021, Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia adopted the moniker “The New Four Kings.” One weight class below super-featherweight, Shakur Stevenson was a star on the rise.
As Stevenson continued to shine, his name became part of the team. At that time the boxing team had five talented boxers who wanted to see them compete against each other.
On the night of April 22, 2023, Gervonta Davis entered the ring to face Ryan “KingRy” Garcia. Davis looked very impressive when he stopped Garcia in the seventh round.
When Davis beat Garcia, fight fans were worried about Davis fighting another member of the elite. At first, they wanted Davis to fight Devin Haney, but suddenly, the name of the fifth member of the team started to be heard.
After winning world titles in multiple weight classes, Shakur Stevenson moved up to lightweight, defeated Edwin De Los Santos by unanimous decision, and won the vacant WBC world title. It was menial work, but Stevenson got the job.
Two years later, Stevenson faced high volume puncher William Zepeda. Shakur had a very exciting game because he could stand inside the pocket and always put together sharp combinations.
Stevenson went on to win by unanimous decision. This past weekend, Shakur moved up to 140, schooled Teofimo Lopez, and won The Ring and WBO world titles.
After seeing what we saw on January 31st, it’s safe to say we’ve officially entered the Shakur Stevenson era. Shakur is ready and willing to fight any boxer who is perceived as superior.
Fight fans wanted to see some marquee, and 2026 is the right time for this event. The fight between Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) and Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is the biggest fight in boxing.
Back in July 2025, Shakur Stevenson was a guest on the ‘Way Up With Angela Yee’ podcast. When asked about the fight with Gervonta Davis, Shakur gave a straight answer.
“Actually, I’ve been calling a fight for two or three years now, so I’m ready for a fight. It’s all on Tank. Tank should say he’s ready.”
In previous interviews, Tank Davis has shown a lack of interest in Shakur’s game. During a press conference about his fight with Lamont Roach, a member of the media asked a lot of questions about Shakur, which Tank answered.
“What are you, a Shakur fan or something? Why do you keep bringing up Shakur? There are mad fighters out there. I’m fighting Lamont. You keep bringing up Shakur.” Davis went on to say, “I’m going to fire Shakur.”
Gervonta Davis is a successful opposing player who is accurate, explosive, and has incredible knockdown power. Shakur Stevenson is an elite ring specialist who is also known as a defensive specialist.
Right now, Gervonta “Tank” Davis has a personal matter to attend to. Once he settles his issues, hopefully fight fans will be able to see a blockbuster Shakur vs Tank clash in mid to late 2026.
