Oakland police are laughing after a fatal collision, new video reveals

This is the heartbreaking moment a police officer laughs and cracks jokes after a high-speed “ghost chase” kills a bystander.

Graphic footage showed Oakland police chasing an unlicensed driver in June 2022 before the suspect crashed, killing bystander Lolomanaia Soakai.

The police left the scene without offering help, making jokes, one even saying, “I hope he’s dead.”

The 25-minute video was submitted by the family of Soakai, the young airline worker who died on the side of the road, in the recovery process for his property against the City of Oakland.

Footage shows Oakland police following Arnold Linaldi before he collided with Lolomanaia Soakai.
The video tracks two speeding cars, the crash and its aftermath.
The fatal crash happened after an unsanctioned, unlicensed police chase, known as a “ghost chase.”
First responders arrive at the Oakland crash site.

The clip contains surveillance camera and body camera footage showing 19-year-old Arnold Linaldi making donuts in his car. He then sped off on International Boulevard while police officers Walid Abdelaziz and Jimmy Marin-Coronel chased him.

Police chased Linaldi without lights or sirens in what is known as a ghost chase, or an unsanctioned, unsanctioned chase by law enforcement.

The officers followed “at all times without lights, sirens, or warning of their pursuit,” court documents state.

Lolomanaia Soakai, 27, was killed in June 2022 after a car hit her following a “ghost chance.”
Soakai’s mother was also injured in the 2022 Oakland crash.

In the video of the chase, Abdelaziz swerves and “narrowly misses” a pedestrian. “I’m going to kick your stupid ass,” he can be heard saying.

Then there is a big accident, the car goes out of control. There are pictures of Soakai lying motionless on the ground, blood pooling on his head. His mother, who was also injured, is sitting next to him, crying, “He is my son.”

Soakai’s memorial announcement follows his tragic death.

The police were heard wondering if there had been an accident. “He did, huh?” Abdelaziz said. “You hit the fk in that truck.”

Marin-Coronel then said he hoped he was dead. The video shows the police leaving the scene without rendering aid to the dying man.

They returned later, pretending they didn’t know what had happened, according to Adanté Pointer, the family’s lawyer.

Officers turned off their body cameras and deleted parts of the video, Pointer said, before arresting Linaldi.

After this incident, the police also resigned from the job.

“These officers took every opportunity to avoid responsibility,” Pointer told FOX 2. “These officers took every opportunity to disrespect their oath and their badge.”

The California Post reached out to the Oakland City Attorney and the Oakland Police Department, who declined to comment.

The lawsuit is pending in San Francisco’s Northern District Court.
