Authorities Warn of Potential Drone Threat
According to information reviewed by ABC Newsauthorities were warned that in February 2026, Iran allegedly expressed interest in attacking an unmanned aircraft that could target California areas if the US launched an attack on the country. The potential threat is reported to have been identified by the United States Coast Guard and shared with law enforcement agencies as a precautionary measure. Officials say there is currently no additional information about the timing, method, or targets related to the alleged plot.
Newsom Says State We Are Taking a Big Threat
Newsom confirmed that California officials are taking the reports seriously, explaining that the California Office of Emergency Services is already sharing real-time information with local law enforcement agencies across the state. He added that officials have been actively monitoring drone-related security concerns and have created special task forces to deal with potential risks. In a video released on Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom shared this:
“Regarding the drone strikes, we knew that information,” he said. “We’ve been working closely with the (SOC), which we set up shortly after the war started – the Government Operations Center. We’re working with the Office of Emergency Services, but we’re also working on the ground to make sure we pass on any information we get.”
The warning comes amid ongoing tensions following US military action against Iran during the Donald Trump administration, with reports indicating that Iran has since carried out drone strikes in parts of the Middle East. Meanwhile, the office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Los Angeles refused to comment on the situation, and the White House has not yet responded to requests for clarification.
