7th Heaven Alum Beverley Mitchell Remembers Colon Cancer Scare

The old one 7th Heaven a child star Beverly Mitchell looks back on his cancer scare from his early 30s.

“Yesterday, I got a colonoscopy, and I’m sharing this because I think there are a lot of people who are scared or ashamed,” said Mitchell, 45, on Saturday, March 7, in an Instagram video. “I’m not shy. A few years ago, I saw a doctor who looked at my blood work and said, ‘Hey, I’m not saying anything but it looks like you have the same symptoms as those with breast cancer.'”

Mitchell, who was in his early 30s at the time, underwent a colonoscopy for further clarification.

“I went to a gastro[enterologists]wanted to get a colonoscopy. At that time, I had hemorrhoids so I had blood in my stool.” “The gastro agreed, so I did a colonoscopy. I found out, I had the biggest polyp you’ve ever seen on a young woman.”

According to Mitchell, “he was saved a lot [her] his life” by supporting the medical process.

“I followed, three years later [and] another colonoscopy was required. It was completely clean,” he said, “I was ugly. It has been eight years since my last colonoscopy. I was supposed to be on a regimen every three years. It’s eight o’clock. I was out of time.”

Mitchell finally decided to get a colonoscopy after seeing various “signs” to return to the doctor, including the recent death of James Van Der Beek. (A child playing an actor Van Der Beek died in February after a battle with stage III colorectal cancer. He was 48.)

“Listen, if we get screened and if we go get our colonoscopies and pay attention, we can catch things early,” Mitchell said. “I’m happy to report that my colonoscopy came back clean, so I’m now on my five-year cycle [and] I am no longer a serious threat.”

Although Mitchell was initially apprehensive about what the doctors would find in her lab work, she is glad she didn’t wait any longer to have a colonoscopy.

“Postponing it will not make the situation better, it will make it worse,” added the actor. “This is my PSA that if you’ve been putting off your colonoscopy, go get it now.”

Mitchell previously faced a cancer scare in 2020 while pregnant with daughter Mayzel, telling Us that he had to “deal with skin cancer.”

“[I was] to make sure I can pull that off while I’m pregnant and passing [the coronavirus pandemic],” he said to himself Us at that time. “I have to keep reminding myself what I’m in control of and letting go of who I am. I think that’s helped me get through everything. … It’s a very crazy time when you’re, like, full of hormones, emotions and you’re big.”

In addition to Mayzel, Mitchell and the husband Michael Cameron shares daughter Kenzie, 13, and son Hutton, 11.
