Madison “Madi” Prewett he found a secret way to communicate with his friends and family while he was working Bachelor.
“I’m here in this crazy place [where] a group of girls fight for one man’s attention – again [it’s] not a godly place,” Prewett, 29, said on the Monday, March 16, episode of his “Stay True” podcast. “There is no one like trying to seek holiness. It’s a crazy idea in itself, so I’m just trying to find this life – and I can’t reach anyone. “
Prewett appeared Peter Weber‘s season 24 of Bachelor, which aired in 2020, and reached the end. Prewett, however, pulled herself out of the show after discovering that Weber, now 34, had slept with another contestant in the dream suite.
Prewett, who was saving for marriage, and Weber briefly reconciled after filming wrapped. (Weber married Hannah Ann Sluss during the Qualifications (eventually, but he broke up with the model, now 29, because of his unresolved feelings for Prewett.)
Even before Prewett left the show, she began questioning her connection to Weber after meeting his family during Hometowns week.
“It reaches these points where it becomes traumatic.” You, I said, you feel like you’re in this prison, like, ‘What did I do?’” Prewett recalled of his college friend. Erica Hardesty on Monday’s episode. “I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the show yet, so, it’s just this struggle of, ‘Lord, should I stay? Should I leave?’
After Weber visited Prewett’s family in Alabama, he was taken to a hotel room until the next cast event.
“I’m in California for a week, me and them have one [producer] he remembers: “I was beaten sometimes [where] I was really in over my head.”
According to Prewett, he was torn between his feelings for Weber and the knowledge that his father had not given the pilot “his blessing” to propose.
“I’m like, ‘Well, okay, I can’t get engaged,'” Prewett said, noting that she later asked whether to stay on the show or leave herself. I was like, ‘I have to connect with my people.’
Qualifications contestants famously don’t have access to their phones during production, so Prewett thought of a secret way to access her email account.
“I don’t even know how, [but] I somehow managed to get the hotel key,” he said, adding that the producers also grabbed the room keys. “I got the hotel key, I snuck out of the room, and I think [told my producer]like, ‘I want to go to the gym.'”
Instead of going to the gym, Prewett went to the hotel’s business center to use the computer.
“I went to the office, got a computer, went into my email, sent an email immediately [Erica] and my mom,” she said, “I’m like, ‘Guys, I don’t know what to do. Please let’s pray, I don’t know if I should stay. I don’t know if I broke up with him. What have I done?’ [It was a] 911, ask God, tell me what should I do? [message].’”
Prewett sent his email, went back to his hotel room and waited for a response.
“The next day, I did the same thing. I went back to the computer and got an email from you guys,” she said. “All week [we had] this goes back and forth. It was crazy. … I’m so grateful that I had that because that was my therapy, my outlet [and it changed my headspace]. I feel like I have a clearer mind.”
After Prewett left Bachelor, She continued with her husband now Grant Troutt. They welcomed their first child, daughter Hosanna, in 2025.
